Andrew Clarke, Bruce Gradkowski Named to Preseason "Watch Lists"
Clarke up for nation's best tight end; Gradkowski among candidates for best quarterback

July 13, 2004

Toledo, OH - Senior tight end Andrew Clarke (Naperville, IL) and junior quarterback Bruce Gradkowski have been named to the official "watch lists" for the annual awards given to the best college football players at their respective positions.

Clarke, 6-4, 249 pounds, was one of 26 players to be named to the John Mackey Award watch list as the best tight end in the country. Clarke, a first-team All-MAC selection in 2003, was third on Rockets with 35 receptions and second on squad with eight TD receptions. He has 18 career TDs, the most by a Rocket tight end and second-most overall on UT's all-time list.

Gradkowski, 6-2, 210 pounds, is one of 42 candidates listed for the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback. Gradkowski threw for a school-record 29 touchdowns in 2003 and set a Mid-American Conference record in completion percentage (71.2%).

Toledo opens the 2004 season at Minnesota on Sept. 4. Preseason training camp begins on Aug. 9. 04-rock

Congrats also to CMU TE Tory Humphery, who is also on the Mackey watch list (along with WMU's Tyson DeVree). 04-rock

42!!!! Being awfully selective there aren't they? Stan Hill is on the list as well but, if you really want to see how exclusive it is, so is Rasheed Marshall from WVU. His stats are almost identical to Stan's but the difference is Stan played 4 1/2 games while Rasheed played in 11 or 12.
