From the Hoopville website:

Akron Zips

While Akron returned a multitude of experience to the lineup this season, coach Dan Hipsher has been pleasantly surprised with the development of the MAC's best freshman class.

Forward Jeremiah Wood has stepped into a starting role and has not disappointed, leading the team in rebounding. Forward Romeo Travis and guard Dru Joyce, teammates of LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, have stepped out of the shadows to offer solid contributions, as well.

Coupled with veterans Derrick Tarver, Andy Hipsher and Johnny Hollingsworth, and the Zips may have the formula to capture the MAC East crown.

And from Vandelay....

AKRON
Wins: Radford, Hampton, James Madison, Duquesne, Cleveland St. & Wright St.

Losses: Cincinnati & North Carolina

Comment: Akron is playing very good basketball right now led by Derrick Tarver who is averaging 20-points per game. Several true freshmen are playing well for the Zips, especially Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce, who were high school teammates of LeBron James at Akron SVSM. From the game write-up on NIU.edu. Given our woeful performance on the boards last Saturday, this doesn't look like a good matchup for us. Obviously, Marcus needs to have a huge game, but so do Hughes and Sanders. If they can't get it done, we may get run out of the gym tonight....:(

[i]The Zips are 6-3 on the season and 0-1 in the MAC after falling 83-75 at home to Western Michigan ... An outstanding rebounding team, Akron leads the MAC in total rebounding (40.0) and are tied for first in offensive rebounds (14.0) ... Akron is led rebounding wise by Jeremiah Wood, a freshman averaging 8.7 boards a game ... Wood leads the Conference in offensive caroms at 4.4 per ... While the Zips can board with the best of them, they can also score, led by the MAC

What's Akron got? Obviously more than NIU has. What a horrible loss. This will be a lean year for the Huskies.
