Saw the game. Liked the way we tried to take the ball inside especially Todd Peterson who had a nice game. He did take a couple of 3's at times that I felt we didn't need to take them. At least we ran some offense and didn't spend all night passing the ball around the perimeter and shooting a lot of 3's.The pressue defense worked well most of the time. Anthony made some nice plays at the end but got in Judson's dog house early in the game. We continue to get hammered inside by big guys with bulk. Bower #42 (Chicago Notre Dame HS)worked us over inside. Sanders played probably his best game so far but still lets opponents get to him. Walter Thompson played quite a bit. With Paradise out and McKinney still learning he is going to have to step up this year. Marcus and PJ continue to play at the level we have come to expect. Marcus had a spectacular dunk on an offensive rebound that he caught in midair. We still get outquicked at guard and get hurt by tall guards. We still get pounded inside and we still make some dumb passes but at least everybody played hard and got a must win over a team we were supposed to beat.

Wow, Peterson took it to the hoop?! That's a VERY good sign! :)

As to the pressure defense, were we running a full court press? I think Field Turf was onto something in the other thread in suggesting we try to give other teams "40 minutes of hell" , using our depth to try and wear team's down.

We're probably not going to win the MAC this year with the talent we have, but it'd be nice to be a factor, at least playing spoiler while also establishing the convo center as a tough place to play (6-0! Ok, we've played a lot of shlubs, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?). Pressure defense and an uptempo pace is definitely a good start. 03-wink

Furthermore, I think picking up the tempo may actually help REDUCE our turnovers. If we start being aggressive, taking the ball to the hole quickly, it'll reduce the amount of time we' re holding the ball, decreasing the likelihood someone will mess up and give the ball away.

On another note, too bad about Paradise. I think the kid has potential, it's really unfortunate his development will be set back a year. :(

Lets go Huskies!! Beat the Cats, and get us back to .500. 04-rock

I was at the game v. Eastern Michigan also. I believe that was the best game the Huskies played this season. I really liked how Smallwood got going on after the technical foul. That emotion needs to be kept in a safe place and used when we need a win.

Can the Huskies win the mac? Only if they can make 3's on the road. That is the problem that has yet to be addressed.

Why did only 2,800 people show up at the game? What else can students be doing on the first week of class? 10,000 students live within 1/4 mile of the game and about 100 came to help the Huskies win.

hmm, good win but dont get too excited to peterson takin it to the hoop. it was pretty much with reckless abandon and one of the shots fell. their full court press helped and hurt em i think. it created some turnovers but they werent able to get back on d too easily. their zone is kinda ******. they gave up the penetration almost every time. if this team could hit the broad side of a barn it woulda been a damn close game. that one guy missed at least 5 open 3's and alotta their shots went halfway down and rimmed out. im not tryin to bash them, but that game coulda been closer. their defense scares me the way eastern just penetrated right to the hoop almost every time. if they could make some damn lay ups niu woulda been up ***** creek. i think rome sanders sucks dongs. im sorry but it looks like he buffed up and he still doesnt create any kind of post presence. i dont expect any presence from hughes and dont see any. he looks kinda lost on offense. just pops in and out of the middle not really tryin to post the guy up. ive seen him standin there a few times on the wing looking perplexed. if he could throw on 30 pounds of more muscle, hell even just fat im sure he could become descent down there.
