Astin Martin is transferring to Grand Valley State. This article tells the story about his mother's health problems and how he felt it was based to be close to home.

Because he is transferring to a Division II school, Martin does not have to sit out a year. Yet he may redshirt this fall because Grand Valley returns its leading rusher, Harlon Hill candidate Michael Tennessee, who will be a senior in the fall.

Isn't he better than the returning guy ??

I suppose they'll sort it out in spring drills.

But it doesn't strike me as irrational to sit Martin even if he is better. Save him, man.

Martin will be a star for them. Best of luck to him.

Toledo still has the coolest named backfield in all of football, but losing Astin Martin hurts us there. Along with Trinity Dawson, Quinton Broussard and Scooter McDougal, Astin made us invincible in that area.

He may be better, but don't forget Grand Valley State won the national championship. They are a very good football team. Also, it might do him good to redshirt him while his family issues are happening. He admitted that his mind was on his family this year, thus the difference in his play compared to his freshman season.

He will be a great back for Grand Valley. I wish he could stay with us, but I understand and wish him a lot of success. In Division II he will be a monster.
