Assuming it happens (as most agree it will).

Will it be for '04 or 05?

I assume that TCU is free to move anytime MWC is ready for them.

I see no contigencies like for MUgreen or UCF or L'ville, Cincy, BC, etc. etc.

The latest news is that the MWC commissioner has said that reports by TCU saying they will be invited to MWC as early as Monday is "premature." The MWC commissioner said that they have talked to TCU, but no invitations to any school have been made or finalized.

C-USA could still be stuck with TCU after all.

TCU is bound to CUSA until 2005. It's not a matter of an early exit fee, but CUSA teams contractually agreed to stick with the conference until then.

Read between the lines. "Premature" means he wishes people weren't writing about it right now.

TCU is gone. The denials don't even really dispute what the Dallas paper is reporting.

Now that TCU is leaving, isn't the majority of the conference departing? Wouldn't that give the departing members enough votes to dissolve the conference and allow everyone to move next year? Just a thought...

Could have problems if TCU leaves with the others

That could trigger a NCAA ruling that C-USA doesn't have 6 continous basketball schools for at least 5 years.

That relates to the financial payouts from the NCAA basketball tourneys that L'ville, Cincy, Marquette, etc. help accumulate for C-USA.

Breaking up is a hard thing to do.

Teams lose the ability to vote in the conference as soon as they announce their departure. I'm not sure if this also applies to dissolving a conference, but it's something to think about.

TCU hasn't been in the conference long enough to help out here anyway. We're in that situation whether or not they leave. The NCAA has granted auto bids to conferences earlier than the rules stipulate because they were screwed by conference shuffling...I see no reason why that won't apply here.

Are you sure, Tiger99?

I believe the key here is ECU.

Once they have been in C-USA five years then C-USA can count them.

Otherwise, C-USA folks will need to get their fingers and count the number of teams (e.g., UAB, Tulane, So. Miss, Memphis, and Houston) who have been on board 5 years.

Six is the NCAAmin. for a "continuing conference" and ECU is absolutely critical if TCU jumps.

Is this ECU's 4th year in C-USA????

I think so, but I'm not so good at remembering dates.
