Did you happen to look at any of the stats for the game? It's not often that a team that scores 83 points, 45 in the first half, shoots 53% from the floor, hits 12 threes, and has 5 guys score in double figures looses. Did you ever think that Buffalo basketball could possibly be getting better? After what I saw tonight, both teams played an amazing game, the only difference was rebounding, and after UB coming of a huge win (for them) at NIU due to rebounding, it was almost given that UB would rebound well again. I give you guys credit. Akron played really well tonight, and stuck in there the entire time. The largest lead was 14, and was tied with 11 left. With less than a minute left UB's lead was only 6, and we had a tough time with the full court pressure. I say congrats to both teams, it was an amazing display of what kids can do when motivated properly.

Hey, Buffalo has given the Flashes all they have wanted in our last two games there. They were the only MAC team to beat us in our Elitle 8 year, and last year we won on a fluke 3 pt. shot at the buzzer. And I mean fluke shot...pass to Gates, bounced off his shoulder back almost to midcourt...bedford picked it up and hit the three.

I don't underestimate the Bulls potential to play well at all.

Newsflash Zips.....it's not an embarrassment to lose to UB in hoops anymore. They have a MAC quality team now and would have an even better record if they didn't blow 2nd half leads at Toledo and at Ohio. They basically have an 8-man team due to academics (ineligible) and injuries....and are playing good ball despite the lack of a deep bench.

News flash MAC Fans ... The Zips are an embarassment to all of us now. Any loss to the Zips by a MAC team this season should herein be known as a BAD LOSS.

Who's got John Loyer's phone number. CK? JP? Z-P? Hopefully MT does.

Hey ZRB2: I have no problems with Buffalo fielding a competitive team in 2004, or Buffalo beating the Zips. I DO have a problem with it happening every single year...whether Buffalo is 10-21 or 3-23. Year-in-year-out, Dan Hipsher is Reggie Witherspoon's *****.

The Zips have lost to every quality opponent they've played this season. This, despite losing no players to graduation last year and adding 3 very good Freshman to the mix.

Our "star" senior point guard is 10+ points below his scoring average from last season. How does that happen?

Hipsher is in his 9th season, and has been to the MAC QUARTERFINALS once (a loss)! This, while 9 miles down the road in Kent they're replacing the locker room ceiling due to the damage caused by all the champagne corks they've popped over the past 6 years.

It wasn't a loss to "Buffalo" that has Zips fans fuming...it is nearly 9 years of "wait til next year" that has officially gotten old.

Hey ZW: Do you really want Loyer? He was the fall guy for the Cincinnati scandal a few years ago. I think that would be a big risk, unless you know something I don't.

CK,

As I've heard it, Loyer spent a lot of his own ca$h after the fact defending himself, and was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing by NCAA. A few games ago, someone who's in the know was sitting near me and was certain that Loyer was clean.

I keep meaning to google it, but I haven't tried yet.

I simply want a coach that will defend well .. for 40 minutes. We could do that now with the talent we have. Loyer will bring that. A big bonus for me would be to tie in the history of the program into the future. While I certainly wasn't around for most of them .. those banners in the rafters MEAN something .. and we need to get back to that. There's a tradition here that's been in hiding for about 14 years .. time to ressurect it. Unfortunately, as I understand it, Loyer and Alberts are the only 80's era Zips that are in coaching (Alberts at HS).

I had an alcohol induced dream a couple of weekends ago that MT pushed the ejector seat on Jan 31. Let Dambrot run the show for the rest of the year .. brought in Loyer as the head man. New staff was: Loyer, Dambrot, Some young stud, Joe Jakubick to teach foul shooting.

My wife laughed and called it a fantasy.

Bob Huggins: 5 years...four, 20+ win seasons. 2-NIT's and one NCAA. Dan Hipsher: 9 seasons... 0, 0, 0.

BTW: John Loyer and I were trying to date the same girl in 1984. She picked me. We're still together 19 years later!

Yes it is an embarrassment to lose to UB!!!!

Let's see what UB's record is at the end of the year! Probably 6-12 with 2 of those wins over Akron?

Bad teams like UB blow second half leads.......Unfortunately, the preseason MAC choice will be 3-6 after Saturday.

Fire Hipsher, now.........maybe the team will be lighter and then a few wins may follow!

Ok, I get your point, Akron was a preseason favorite and now you guys $uck ******..... but I like Captain Kangaroo's reasoning better. It just cracks me up that everytime UB beats someone it's a disgrace for the opponent. You can get your revenge on March 6...maybe. I just can't wait till UB beats Akron in football sometime... the Zips might be asked to terminate the program after that.

As a Kent fan i have never figured Hipsher out. He's always yelling at the officals rather than coaching his team. One mediocre year after another has to be frustating for Zip fans, especially with all the succes we've had. It seems like you always have talented guards but can't find much down low.

If Owens got fired with a winning season i gotta believe Hipsher is next. As a Kent fan i hope he stays forever.

I think the best candidate is sitting in the seat next to him.

Akron is the latest team to prove the curse of being annointed as the "team to beat" before the first game is played. Ohio paved the way last year.

As a Flash fan, I won't forget that we still have one, perhaps two, more match ups with you. The last one may be at the Gund. So I won't write off the Zips after one game.

Well, here it is nearly a month later, Ive discovered the MAC bb, and Hippie is going to be finishing the season of dread. But there is no Hip in the Zip future. The ball once again is back in MTs court. I have a feeling the Prez may have vetoed firing Dan earlier, as he did with LO in 02.

As for the future: would you believe I actually wrote the past AD, the last time around recommending John Loyer for the post. At that time, the Huggins era was fresh in the minds of all. Today, John Loyer is to this moment as Mike Harkins was to the time in 1984 when Huggins replaced Bob Rupert. He's ancient history, and it does no good to dredge up Huggins any more. I will be disappointed if anyone but Keith Dambrot gets the UA job. He's a fine a man as I can think of for the job, and he's helped keep Akron's stars in Akron for the first time since the late-great Dr Wyatt Webb. I think the team will win more games next year -- even with new guards -- than they wil this year with Keith in charge. As we say in the land of Kamehameha, "Imua Zips". Move forward. [SIZE=7]

If there are any Hipsher fans out there, please don't hold it against Ball State for putting the final nail in his Akron coffin. His team played pretty well last night. It was a very good and entertaining game. You have some nice young players.
