I'm not exactly a Bushie per se, Oddball. The old constructs that people hung their hats on like political parties, religious creeds, race and ethnicity are becoming largely irrelevant. The marketplace is becoming the world's greatest influence. Politics is simply another sport.

I do think that the mantra "tax the rich" is disingenuous. Wealth is not a function of income, it's a function of assets. When you raise income taxes you are simply taxing high wage earners. They are not necessarily "wealthy". What you are doing is creating an impediment to the creation of wealth. Mind you, I do not agree with the notion of taxing wealth either, but I do think it's best to be clear with our terms.

On the topic of polls...springtime polls are a great harbinger. Just ask Presidents Dole, Dukakis and Mondale

If you don't think that George Bush is going to pull a huge number of troops out of Iraq prior to the election....well...perhaps you're not as astute as I thought 03-wink

He's in a quagmire due to poor planning and no real justification for the war. Whether he stays or pulls out makes little difference. He phucked up, and the nation is in the process of seeing just how badly.

Watching C-SPAN this morning has been a lot of fun.

BTW, I'm a dumb*** because I just put you on ignore when I meant to quote you 03-banghead

I must be a dumb***, too, because this was the first reference I've seen in this thread to a poll:

Quote:At any rate, with 60% of the 'Merican people saying the war was justified regardless of the weapons , the donkey party may be spending a lot of time training a dog that just won't hunt...

I've got a friend in the Army Reserves, a Lt. Col., who just came home from Afghanistan. The guy's just about as conservative as they get in most respects, but I can promise you that he doesn't believe for a second that America will be decreasing it's presence in either Iraq or Afghanistan by any significant numbers for a very long time. And as an added note, he did a little unofficial, unscientific polling of his own while in Afghanistan. If the feedback he got from fellow officers is any indication whatsoever, the military is about to experience the biggest "brain drain" since Vietnam. The current situation is angering and demoralizing troops at all levels, and many can't wait to get stateside to get out, some with as many as 16 or more years of active duty service (my friend has 12 plus 8 years reserves...he's out next April when he has enough time in grade to lock his pension in...and this guy is VERY dedicated).

Oh, and just to return to topic...

That was a nice letter to Maisel from the PSU fan. I remember leading up to the game and immediately afterward their fans were VERY congenial. It was a pleasure chatting with them.

Sheesh...I bring up Toledo on the front page of the college football section.....and a political debate breaks out....cool!

Then I want to play......

Think about this....if your father, mother, sister, brother, son or daughter was killed while on active duty in Iraq..........would you think that their death was justified? Would you honestly believe that they died protecting their country?

In Afghanistan....absolutely......those soldiers died protecting our country.....no question about it. The "bad guys" set up camp there....and we had to take 'em out.

The fact that a year later....no WMD's have been found...and the president himself made fun of the fact that no WMD's were found....means that Iraq was not an "immenent threat" that our government claimed them to be.

Suddenly the name of the game was "freedom". We went there to free them from a "tyrannical dictator". If the Bush administration said two years ago that we need to invade Iraq to free their people from a "tyrannical dictator".....do you honestly believe anybody would have supported it???

Anyways........how 'bout them Rockets getting some national press? Can the Rockets go undefeated this season??????

Oh, let me clarify then. I was referring to Presidential polls as opposed to polls on a specific issue.
I don't pay any attention to Presidential polls until the traditional post-Labor day campaign season. By then both parties have had their respective conventions, the debates are typically being scheduled and people are actually paying attention.

If we don't see a reduction in forces in Iraq by election day, I'll be very suprised.

Kind of changing your tune aren't you Flicker? First " most " of the troops will be out by the end of summer. Now if you don't see "a reduction" by November you'll be surprised. The fact is most will be out by end of summer 2014. I heard the records of the names of the 500 guys Dubya's dad got him jumped over to get in the Texas Air Guard and out of Vietnam will be released soon also as part of the Kerry records review you requested.

Whether or not BG has a successful football season coming up doesn't matter. Sure it is nice to win, but it's also nice to be a part of the MAC and to be a part of the Division I-A. I hope BG has a good season as Toledo as well. Lets send the MAC to 3 bowls!!!! 04-rock

I don't think this issue will have much traction by the end of summer as most of the troops will likely be home.

I think the real issue for the dems is John Kerry's political tin ear. From yelling at a voter at a town hall meeting to waffling on his voting record to making outsourcing an issue when he and his wife have made millions from outsourcing, he's demonstrated an uncanny knack for shooting himself in the foot.

If he'd just release his war records, we'd know that that isn't how he got those three purple hearts in four months of duty... 03-lol
"LOL?" He served in Vietnam . He saved a man's life. The Bush/Cheney cabal deliberately sat on the sidelines. Now "the war president" sends others again to another quagmire.

Getting back to the original topic.......Toledo is still the top lead-in on ESPN's College Football section! 04-rock

I am pleasantly surprised because they usually change things pretty quickly on there.

Yep...they always switch the lead stories on there.....that's why I originally said "read quick".

Good thing for the Rockets. A couple of my friends came up to me and told me about the story too.

Yet the same circumstances against Toledo was a romp? I think we've found Condi's replacement when she finally melts down. 03-lol

This is why you're a dumb***, Oddball. You don't read and/ or you have poor reading comprehension.

I said that the SECOND HALF of the UT/BG game was not particularly close. BG outscored the Rockettes by 15 points and held a 2-1 advantage in time of possession. That is not a close half of football. In fact, it was a rather dominating performance by the orange and brown.

If you're waiting for Dr Rice to melt down, you'd best pack a lunch. She has more sense in her left pinky toe than the "leadership" of the DNC has in their empty lil' noggins

03-lol
It dosent matter who was better which half. Football is 60 minuets. 8 point game at the end is all that matters. Ask Marshall about only playing a half of football.
Oh no!! It can't be!!! I agree with a....a....a....a....rockette???????????

Maumee is right....games are 60 minutes. BG was in complete control of the UT game after Charles Sharon's 3rd td (he will only be a JR!!! 04-bow ).

Gradkowski found a wide open man and UT scored right away. Then a complete and unexcusable breakdown on special teams allowed UT to grab the onside kick. I have to admit...I wasn't feeling very good at that point. But our defense held and we ran out the clock.
It reminded me of the BG/OSU game last yr when BG had it on OSU's 43 yd line with 20 seconds left trailing by 7. What could have been!

I don't care if BG wins by 1 or 51....JUST KEEP WINNING BABY!

GO FALCONS!!! 2004 MAC CHAMPS!!
