Yeah maybe as a whole, but you get the same award in individual fan class. I've never seen you post anything positive or congratulatory, ever. At least we always congratulate the winners in a contest, first thing, and let the rebuttals determine the direction from there. Why there would be a rebuttal to "good game" is beyond me but there always is one. Not to mention that your replies are very seldom tied to BSU in any way as they are a complete non-factor in MAC sports. Nobody but Toledo every other year sweats playing you. Nobody.

Your band was there. They had banners with hillbilly jokes on them. Classy.
After CCNY dropped to Division II (or whatever), a fella I know played basketball for them.

While he was there, CCNY played a game at Marshall.

He still remembers the experience. He says several Marshall die hards walked all the way around the arena with a sign greeting the visitors. It read:

"DIE YOU GRAVY-SUCKING PIGS."

My friend, who had never lived one moment outside of New York City at that point, had no idea what to make of it.

Class, that. :)
Schad, do you have any idea what year that was? Perhaps early, mid-80s? Steve Martin was at the height of his stand-up popularity and that was in one of his monologues, as I recall. That could be the sole reason for it showing up on a sign.

I think it was the early eighties -- and neither I nor my friend ever caught the reference, I don't think :).

Calling out? Not really. I wouldn't have even mentioned except that he asked about the band. And it wasn't "another team's fans". It was their marching band. They were representatives of their university. I wasn't impressed.
My favorite story along these lines was the time West Virginia was playing at Pittsburgh.

Somebody got on the PA system and informed the audience that "there is a tractor in the parking lot with the lights still on.

"West Virginia license plate: E-I-E-I-O."

I guess the guy got canned. It was awful....

(...ly funny) :)
I read about that in the paper....it was over 10 years ago if my memory serves me correctly.

It's one thing when fans make asses of themselves but it is quite another when its a bandmember or cheerleader who is supposed to be representing the university positively. 2 glowing examples from the past 2 years come to mind.

1. This past year in Peden Stadium here at OU a UCF bandmember was arrested and escorted out of the game when he pulled an OU flag down from a flagpole and tried to steal it. That was actually kindof funny.

2. 2 years ago when Marshall visited Athens (and beat us. . .as usual. . . obviously), several Marshall cheerleaders found it necessary to run up the hill in Peden and ring the "victory bell" until Athletics officials made them stop. I kept hoping to see Brandon Hunter run up the hill and maul someone. . . like he always did to Marshall students, but it just didn't happen.

Organizations affiliated with the school should be held to a higher standard, and if Buffalo's band is going to act like that in Huntington, as guests of Marshall University, then maybe they shouldn't be invited to attend away games until the learn to represent their university with class.

I'm not so sure if people are actually offended by this stuff or if they are just ecstatic to run and tell everyone what they saw. We all seem to get a big kick out of finding faults in the teams, fans, and other supporters of the schools we play. Most of the time I just sit back and decide for myself if it was creative or not. Virginia cheerleaders did a whole skit putting down WV at the continental tire bowl. THen they handed the 'Eers their butts. Everyone threw a big fit, but I thought it was pretty funny even as a WVian. I suspect if the 'Eers had won their would have been little or nothing said about the cheerleaders.

I remember when a friend of mine got caught smoking by his older sister. She was driving by and saw us in my car smoking cigarettes. Radar couldn't have clocked her at the speed she flew up the hill to tell her mom what she saw. She wasn't concerned with his health and wellbeing. She didn't care if he was a chainsmoker or a first-timer. She had the goods on her brother and that was all she wanted. THis stuff is a lot like that example IMO.

Your pep band is pretty good though, by far the best this year at the MAC tourney. It seemed like they were the only band with an original play list in the MAC.

And may I ask UB fans why their pep band has freaking xylophone?

My point is just that opposing fans can do that type of stuff and its no big deal, maybe even adds to the spirit of the game. When its done by uniformed reps of the university, whether it be bands, cheerleaders, or players its out of line and I think wrong. If you're wearing your schools uniform you should act with a little class and dignity, Ohio included, especially when visiting another school as their guest.
