Your key word is trying. The MAC would say "Sorry, you wanted out so here you go"

If Marshall wants to stay in the MAC, I'm all for it. Like them or not, their record on the field, and the fan support they generate enhances the credibility of the conference they are a part of. In addition, this message board will be boring without them.

Well this is an April Fool's joke, but if they did want to stay I don't see it happening.
You have to look at the history. Marshall was kicked out of the MAC years ago for some serious NCAA violations. They rejoined in 1997 and by 2000 they were trying to get out of the MAC already for C-USA. Now they have officially told the MAC they are leaving for another conference.
The MAC would have to show some integrity and say "I don't care what school you are, you have screwed with us too many times and you really don't want to be here so BYE-BYE!"
I mean this as no offense to Marshall fans, because they all know they don't want to be in the MAC.

Besides, as Chryst pointed out when they announced their departure, the MAC is returning to it's core values.

Not exactly a planet core, maybe an apple core.

As well as it's previous level of recognition.

You picked the wrong word as the key - values.

I'm pretty sure I got it right.

It would almost be worth having to stay, just to watch your commish get all giddy at the prospect of getting to keep the Herd. Not a chance in hell he turns down that offer. I bet we could even get him to dance a little jig while he gave us choice schedules and extra TV, like last time, lol.

huh? How exactly have we screwed the MAC? Maybe the deal in the late 60's but I'd guess a lot of us on here weren't around back then to really know all the details of it......but seriously the Herd has greatly helped the MAC this time around with all the added exposure. As far as I know the departure is being done the right way as well. I don't see either party being screwed and it looks like the MAC is going to let '04 play out as normal. We've already seen the schedule come out and it doesn't appear to me they are trying to pull a screw job on Marshall or UCF.....I remember all the talk about having the Miami game back there again.....umm, nope sorry, didn't happen.

Screwed the MAC? An image back in the 60's and again a few years ago with the NCAA infractions. Also, officially saying you are leaving the conference to join another mid-major conference. If I were the MAC the only conference move I would not feel was a screw job is if a school left for a BCS conference.

I for one never said that would happen. I also said I didn't think the MAC would keep Marshall and UCF out of the MACC and Bowl opportunities. Marshall has given the MAC the proper notice of their leaving. Those are not the screw jobs I spoke about.

If you are asking if a school has ever left the MAC for another mid-major conference and then tried to come back, the answer is NO.
NIU left back in the 80's to become an Independent. That didn't work out so they ended up joining the Big West as the only conference they could fine. Eventually, the rejoined the MAC with Marshall in 1997. However, NIU left the MAC to become an Independent and had high hopes of scheudling teams like Notre Dame and Illinois every year. They were not making a lateral move.
I don't want to get into an arguement here so I am done with this.
