Since Oklahoma had to drop Fla A&M and Oregon dropped Nevada.....looks like the Bulls and the boys from Reno are hooking up. SOmething a little different, i like it.

Great to see you guys got a 1-A opponent. Toledo played Nevada twice back in 1995, our last games against them. We beat them 49-35 in Toledo during the regular season. Then we beat them 40-37 in the Vegas Bowl.

UNR has their "old" coach back. Chris Ault (?) is back, running his spread offense that Boise St copied and started beating their old rivals at UNR!

Actually, UNR was running the same offense, but Ault as AD didn't produce competitive teams like Ault as Head Coach.

Ault was there back in '95 when we played them. They had a very good offense back then. In the Vegas Bowl game one of their wide receivers caught a record 16 or 18 passes. Something in that range. I think he ended up playing in the NFL too.

Interesting point about Nevada, two of their top 15 home crowds were against MAC schools.

13 25,112 Toledo 9/23/95 L, 35-49
14 24,430 Kent 9/28/96 W, 63-42

I think that Kent team was quarterbacked by Jose Davis. Those teams scored a ton of points and lost a lot. This game is indicative of that era...

I thought i recall seeing Toledo play at Nevada last season.....or was that the other Nevada team???

Anyway, they finally issued a press release on the UB website and it sounds like we got a great deal out of this. ESPN will televise two UB games...who knows when?!? (one football, one hoops). It doesn't say which games will be on or when? but I hope we're talking ESPN or ESPN2 and not just ESPN+

Change Made To UB Football Schedule
Bulls to travel to Nevada on Sept. 18 instead of Temple

BUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo football schedule for this fall has been altered to accomodate ESPN television.

The Bulls, originally scheduled to travel to Temple on Sept. 18, will instead travel to Nevada for a non-conference game against the Wolfpack. The change came to accomodate a request from ESPN and will lead to Buffalo receiving two national television exposures, one each in football and basketball, on ESPN. The arrangement came as the result of negotiations among six schools.

Buffalo's series with Temple will resume in 2006 with a game in Buffalo.

"We felt that this agreement benefitted both UB and the Mid-American Conference," said Bill Maher, interim Director of Athletics. "The opportunity for the University at Buffalo and our student-athletes to receive national television exposure was a major factor in making this change."

Buffalo and Nevada have never met in football, and this will be the first time the Bulls have ever played a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Wolfpack, 6-6 last season, will return the game at UB Stadium during the 2009 season.

The 2004 schedule:

Who will Temple get?

I mean, if the MAC screwed 'em... that would suck. Temple is one of the only I-A teams playing at Bowling Green on a regular basis. And I wouldn't mind seeing them bring their football our way.

Temple is playing Florida A&M. It all started when Oklahoma decided they didn't want to play FAMU since they were still going to be DI-AA. Oklahoma got Oregon in place of FAMU. Temple dropped Buffalo for FAMU and 1 guaranteed ESPN/ESPN2 televised game. Buffalo got Nevada, who Oregon dropped to play Oklahoma.

Temple got the worse of the deal in terms of opponent, but they also got a nationally televised TV game which is very big for them. That could help their recruiting since they are never on national TV.
