Sure, I am dumb, if that's what you say.

I also would suggest that you run your posts past Rocketfootball before posting. Now for you too: I suggest you read what I wrote before responding to only portions of what I wrote.

I will break this down for you. Let's start with the John Madden thing. Do you honestly believe that any football fan would think that John Madden doesn't have a strong understanding for the game of football? I believe that you were insinuating that I don't believe this. That is your first mistake. For one, intellect and great knowledge of football are two separate things. A person can be the winningest or most knowledgeable coach in football history and still say things like "uh, errrr, what we wanted to do when we got here was uh, errr, ahhh score more points than them. I knew that if we did that uhhh, errr, we would win the game." You see, this statement may sound to some people as being an obvious, general, or pointless statement. Hint: log onto frankcaliendo.com and listen to some of his John Madden impersonations. I think that you may understand what I am talking about afterward.

Moving along to the 1000 yards comment. I don't know, maybe I am harder to please than most as I grew up a Buckeyes fan, but as I stated before: 1000 yards rushing in the MAC alone does not excite me. Over a 12 game period, that is an average of 84 yards per game. Over a 14 game period, that is an average of 72 yards per game. As the sole rusher, that is not too impressive by my standards. I was going to leave this open as to bait you on your reply (as it is sooo easy to do), but I am going to say it now: had I left that alone, you would have replied with a "show's how much you know, he wasn't our sole rusher. We's had two other guys, Harris and Lane who he sometimes be splittin' carries with." I would have replied that now you are coupling this 1000 yards stat with other information and it is becoming legitimate IMO.

As far as the 1000 UT rusher goes, I could have stated in my previous post that Trinity Dawson only rushed for 999 yards which is short of 1000 and that he only had 10 TD's which is short of Pope's (I am only assuming, as I have not opened up either's stats) therefore, the numbers say that Pope is better than Dawson. I will not consider every contingency and preemptively post reasons that your response is incorrect. BTW if these numbers are wrong and you feel the need to reply that I am "dumb" or "stupid" because I have not researched Dawson's or Pope's stats before posting this, then so be it. I would say that like I stated in the post, there are reasons to having lower numbers. Such as giving the ball up to your quick back at the goal line every time or having a qb with a great arm and a freshman AA WR and a junior WR who led the nation in receptions. These could be factors as to the rushing yards accumulated by a running back. Then again, this is nothing more than what I had previously posted.

Yes, RF seems like a nice guy.

Humiliate me publicly if you feel like it. This is a smack board and that's what it is here for. I am "dumb" in the eyes of a BG fan.

This is like catching flies in flypaper. On a good day, you'll get a few of them.

BG didn't hire Gregg Brandon to give speeches or do calculus. He, like John Madden, was hired to win football games. Anyway, he was smart enough to outcoach Mr Doughnut, so I'm not sure where you're going with that line of reasoning....

FWIW, Tom Amstutz is about as articulate as Jethro Bodine. Did Mr Doughnut quit school after the 6th grade also?

I'm not the only person who thinks PJ Pope is better than any of your backs. The people who voted him first team all-MAC agree with me. That alone trumps any statistical comparison we can make (even if the stats DO favor PJ as well)

I don't know who Jethro Bodine is, so I can't respond to that one, but I also think that Pope is a good RB. I wouldn't say that he is better than our RB's but he is obviously a good player. There were only two players last year from BG that I was impressed with, Patten and Pope. Though I don't like Patten, I think that he is a good player and it will be a shame if he doesn't get drafted. On the other hand, I do like Pope as a player and as a human being (though I have only seen him on T.V). To put it into perspective, BG picked up Edwin Hood this year, a guy that UT wanted to place at DB. I was told that he chose to sign with BG because he wanted to play RB in college and was a good enough RB for your program. That isn't my argument though. My argument is that 1000 yards is more impressive if you tell me that he averages 8 ypc, etc.

Either way, I am sure that we could argue over who's team is better, but deep down and in the end, we all know that the answer is Toledo. Some of us just have to dig deeper than others to find this information.

Petey Hood was told he could compete at RB. He's officially listed as a RB/DB on the 2003 recruiting video at the athletics website. Trust me, Petey's a good enough RB to play at either BG or UT.

I'm not sure how you could watch Josh Harris become one of only three QB's in MAC history to amass 4,000+yrds of total offense in a single season and not be impressed. Or how you could wacth CHarles Sharon torch you for three TD's and not think he's good. How could you not admire Cole Magner as a football -player? On second thought, I do know...you're not a very good judge of football talent.

BG leads the all time series against UT. We won last year and we've won two out of the last three. You could argue that UT has the better program, but the facts suggest otherwise.

Harris: Impatient and quickly takes off when if pressured. Not always on the same page as receivers and misses a lot of wide open targets. Marginal accuracy outside of 10 yards and lacks a sense of timing. Might never be much more than a career backup but his natural playmaking skills, toughness and leadership skills should get him chosen in the middle rounds.

To be fair and balanced: Tough and plays with pain.

This is what I told my BG fan coworker all season long. The best way that I can describe it is that at BG, they extremely exploited his skills. I will not explain how it is easier for a qb to throw the ball when the defense creeps up because they have to prepare for the run as I am sure that you wouldn't understand this (you seem to be more of a "numbers only" guy). Also, I think that I heard in the NIU game that he runs like a 4.9 or 5.0. Most LB's are faster than that.

As far as Sharon goes, I think that he is too skinny and needs better hands. He could turn into a good WR though. I watched more BG games than just the UT matchup, so I can base these "opinions" on more than just one three TD game. I also watched (2) Miami games  and (1) NIU game against your team.

As far as Magner goes, I just don't like him at all and could never form an unbiased opinion of him, so I will not attempt to try.

If I listed all of your fav's, I would also have to list about 30 Buckeyes, 30 Wolverines, 30 Huskers, 30 Nittany Lions, 30 Hurricanes, etc. etc.

So yes, I am a poor judge of talent and you are not. You understand the game and I don't. Is that about right? Please call the guys at theinsiders and nflexperts.com and tell them the same thing.

BTW: I have to admit, the "Sharon" thing kind of threw me, but my contingent side told me that I would be arguing why I didn't pick your highest rated draft pick and Golden Boy also.

Here is a preemptive reply, no I am not as good of a football player as these guys and I don't pretend to be either.

Another preemptive reply: Yes, I did leave off more Harris positives than just the one. 03-wink

Your assessment of Harris sounds more like "Bruce ALmighty" except you left out "rag arm" and referred to toughness.

I might have agreed with some of your criticisms of Harris after 2002. I think he improved greatly in 2003 and will continue to do so in the NFL. More than one scout has stated that he has the biggest upside of any QB in the draft. He simply needs some work on his footwork (throws off his back foot a bit) and he needs to learn to run the oiffense from under center. He was an option QB in HS and he burned most of his freshmen year playing RB. He definitley needs some polish for the NFL. He's smart enough and coachable enough to do that. (For the record, Harris is usually clocked at 4.7 or so in the 40.)

I won't even address the idiocy of you calling me a "numbers guy" right before you cited Harris' 40 time.

Not sure what your basing your assessment of Sharon's hands on. He made a number of very nice, acrobatic catches this season, including the NIU and Miami games. I don't recall too many drops, certainly none in key situations. Did you see the catch he made to beat Purdue? He was strong enough to wrestle the ball away from their DB, so I guess being skinny is ok. He runs good routes, is very elusive and not afraid to go over the middle. He may need to improve his topline speed a hair to play on Sunday.

I don't know what to make of your irrational dislke of Cole Magner. Does your girlfriend have a crush on him?

These players are good athletes and I understand where you are coming from. As a good fan, you hold your players in higher regard than most fans from opposing teams...that is understandable. Remember this, I may not be impressed with a player, but that doesn't mean that I don't think they are or will be a good player. A great player is what impresses me. A good player (to me) is to be expected of a D1-A athlete. And yes, I do understand that you think these guys are great players.

I am not a "numbers guy." I may use numbers (like the 1000 yards stat) to help make a decision, but numbers alone do not mean everything.

I can only explain my irrational decision on Cole Magner this way: I am a fan of the rival team. He seems arrogant or cocky to me, which drives a lot of opposing fans crazy. I used to love watching Astin Martin because he was so cocky on the field. I always told whomever I was with that I love it as a UT fan but would hate it as an opposing fan. That's it...nothing more than that.

I will also say the following: as a Buckeye fan, I would have liked to see someone as good as Pope or Dawson playing for the Buckeyes. Ross and Hall were horrible last year and I don't care about the knock on the MAC. I would have rather seen someone as good as these guys on the Buckeyes' offense. Patten couldn't have played for tOSU, but I will admit that he was real good and could have been a starter for the Rockets last year. The others are good players (in my opinion).

I think guys like Magner, Sharon, Pope, Dawson, Moore and Odom are very good MAC players. I think they are good 1A players. Most of them have the skills to play at the next level, but I wouldn't expect them to step right in and start.

Of the current Falcons, I think Pope and Scott Mruczkowski have the best shot at getting NFL attention. Pope is tailor made for the west coast offense and Mruczkowski is simply a beast.

I don't know who Scott Mruczkowski (linebacker?) is, but yes we can agree on this. I do think that Pope will be good and your team can rely on him a lot more than you have in the past. I look for you to do this too, especially the first few games.

All right, it's been fun and I have a great post for next year's game that expresses every sports fan's opinion of their rivals. I would like to show you it now, but I think that it will serve its purpose better before the game. It's hilarious and I guarantee that everyone will like it, though some may have already seen it. Oh well, only seven more months...

Falconfreak90 Wrote:As far as your RB's go, the only two that I have seen much of were Pope and Lane, and I don't think that any of them were your leading rusher last year.  I can bring up McDougle, Johnson, Parmele, and Davis and tell you that we have better RB's.  The problem is that without PT, it doesn't matter.

Seems to me YOU better hope we bolt back to the East or you won't win the West for a long, long time.

PJ Pope was All MAC as a Sophomore last yr.   OVer 1,000 yards rushing, 48 receptions outta the backfield and easily one of the best backs in the MAC.  I'm surprised you don't remember him.   03-lol

"it is very easy to picture him with no legs, a long slender body"....That leaves Numnutz out!

Touchdown, you are a rookie at best.  You are getting your tail kicked but don't know when to let it go.

"Is that all you got"?          Weak, bro.
I have forgotten PJ Pope? In the portion that you had quoted, I stated that he was one of the two running backs that I have seen. Somehow I have forgotten him though. BTW, maybe you are a rookie to college football, but I am going to tell you that 1000 yards in college football (the MAC at that) is not an impressive enough stat to go around bragging about. Maurice Clarett came into college football as a TRUE freshman and rushed for over 1200 yards in the BIG TEN in a limited number of games. I will give you the fact that he is one of the few falcons that impresses me, but it is not the fact that he rushed for over 1000 yards, that stat alone is weak. Couple it with 1st team RB in the MAC 2003 and it is still weak. Couple it with 7 or 8 ypc or whatever he has and you now begin to gain credibility. Tell me that he is a punishing rusher and we can talk. Also, I will take the accusation of being a rookie poster on this board over the accusation of being a rookie connoisseur of college football any day.

You stated that UT won't win the West for a long, long time. Tell me what the present day statistics have to say about this and we can talk. Until you prove to be more than a one season wonder or a flash in the pan, you have no credibility with that statement.

I am weak, yet the best that BG fans (including yourself) can come up with when ripping on coach Amstutz is commenting on his weight or calling him Numnutz. Who is weak here buddy? I am going to tell you a story here guy: last year after the UT - BG game, that night I was over at a friend's house (Michigan fan) and Brandon was giving an interview. We both started rolling shortly after Brandon started talking. Obviously my friend was oblivious to who Brandon was, nonetheless we had a great laugh over the statements that Brandon made. I remember that my friend refered to him as a "box of rocks" and I made the statement that he is worse than Madden. I think that it is about time he goes to Oz to beg the Wizard for some intellectual parts.

"Weak, bro." 03-banghead
:snore: :snore: :snore: :snore: :snore:

Dude,
I've given you more stats and analysis yet all you say is I rip your coach's weight. Who's weak? You are bro. You say this whole 1000 yrd rusher thing is no big deal....really? How many of your "awesome" baby backs had over 1000 yrds last yr? BTW, Harris rushed for over 800 yrds and BJ Lane added another 500 in addition to Pope's 1000. All MAC along with Michael "The Burner" Turner is weak? You really amaze me with your "Logic". Do you actually read the drivel before posting it?

Your "story" about Brandon is almost believable. Bottom line...he wins football games so get used to it. And what does Gregg Brandon have to do with John Madden?

BG a "one season wonder"....???? Are you on crack? 8-3, 9-3, 11-3...yep, sounds like a one season wonder.

Why do I still waste time on you, TR? I've been following college football since the late 70's when I was a 9 yr old kid. Hardly a rookie, but keep trying.

You worry me TR...I won't be replying to any more of your, ahem, "posts" cuz I cannot stomach the incredible ignorance that seeps from them.

BTW, Scott Mruczkowski was only All MAC last yr and one of the best linemen in the country. He will be playing on Sundays in the future.
He is playing Center for BGSU.
