Weekly Review – Week #2
By Nick Gerogosian
September 12, 2004
The MAC took on the chin for the second straight week. There were some impressive performances with Marshall losing at Ohio State on the final play of the game and Eastern Michigan hanging with Florida for the first half at “the swamp,

It's been bad....very bad. At this rate, I don't expect any MAC schools to be ranked as season's end.

The MAC had an exceptional year in 2003, but success cycles around. I fully expected the MAC to be down a little this year, and the prognostications that the MAC was now better than the Big East were delusional.
The MAC is what it is......a Mid-Major football conference. Hopefully this season doesn't ruin our chances for a third bowl in 2005. God knows we don't deserve a fourth.

Last year was the MAC's 15 minutes of fame. That doesn't mean this still isn't a quality mid-major football conference. Is this conference ever going to have one or two perenially ranked top 25 programs? Highly doubtful. Can this conference still be respected in college football and send a couple of well deserving teams to a bowl game each year? Absolutely.
Let the national media say "nah nah, we told you so." Those like Trev Alberts who make such statements are small for doing so. The national media never really had their heart in following the MAC to begin with. No great loss.

I disagree... I think the MAC, at this point is still capable of having a team or two in the Top 25 almost every year. I think BG and NIU are still capable of getting ranked this year. But it will be a whole lot tougher for the one that loses on 9/24.
I guess after the year we had last yr, the bar was set too high. We all want the MAC to get the credit it deserves but it's been pretty brutal so far.

This would be a nice year to be a part of the party. Look at all the non BCS schools in the Top 25 or thereabouts this week: Utah, Boise State, Fresno State, Memphis, Louisville, Troy...
That Ohio State dill taco on ESPN trotted out his usual claptrap: "Do I think these teams could win some games against good teams? Yes. Could they do it on a week-in week-out basis? No."
The problem with that statement is that it is impossible to disprove. Teams can only beat one another when they play, and any team not in the Big 10 cannot play in the Big 10 "week in and week out." Plus, in any given year, only the top 1 or 2 teams in ANY conference win "week in and week out". The rest win some and lose some. So it's just another way of defending the status quo.

The voters really ripped Fresno State off by only voting them around 20th in the country. They should of been in the top 15.

Agreed. Find a team that has two better wins that spanking Washington and Kansas State on the road.

A few Kent State highlights to add on Cribbs. On a 3-8, he lost his shoe, yet still took off and ran on one barefoot for 9 yards and a first down. A few plays before, Josh was about to get sacked, so switched the ball from his throwing hand and made a left handed toss to Dowrey.
As a friend of mine says " you can't coach this!"
Welcome back, Mr. Cribbs!
