WMU was in step with Toledo back in the early 90's in terms of wanting to build a football program... they were getting a pretty good reputation and were playing quality teams tough... now, they are just terrible...

At least you know when it's time to eat your own kind, lol.

FWIW, Darnell probably should hit the road. I would rather see it happen mutually though, becaes he was very good to WMU before the job outsourcing fiasco.

Just like you don't seem to fit with "your kind" sometimes, Bob kind of stands out with us, you know? 03-wink

MUther..... in the eighties... when ESPN started their network and the rules of the NCAA to make it possible for smaller colleges to cut into the College football market... UT and WMU took advantage of a relatively new market... UT fired our coach of i think eight years or more... can't remember... but i am sure RF or Oddball will know... anyway... we hired a new head coach... Nick Saben... not sure if any of you know who that is... well... since then, UT and WMU in the early nineties were trying to compete in the national College football market looking for a small slice of the pie... it turns out that UT coaches have taken other jobs where Darnell has stayed... he has done spent his wad... he has peaked and now it is time for him to go, because WMU does have the ability to get back to the upper echelon of the MAC... i love the WMU v Toledo rivalry... which started in the early eighties because of the success the two programs enjoyed... when Horton.. our ex president invested in our athletic program and the prez of WMU did the same... a little history for you new and EX MAC members

I dont think our coach should go at all. I knew at the beggining of the year it could be a long year. We are still weeding out the JUCOs that Darnell thought were going to get us over the top. Our last two recruiting classes have been solid and watch out for us next year.

I would be very unhappy if UT football fell on hard times for several years in a row. WMU should contend every year. The facilites are outstanding, and the fan support is among the best in the MAC. If I was a Bornco, I would be upset with Darnell.

If I was a Bronco fan I would have smelled trouble at the beginning of the year when Darnell ducked out on UCONN because the schedule was just too tough.

Admittedly I don't know the ins and outs of WMU football, but if Darnell has shown his loyalty in the past, and if the future remains bright, despite a misstep or two, then I would show some loyalty back and keep him. I think a last minute loss at Illinois (eventhough Illinois is not very good) shows all is not lost.

I guess Darnell shouldn't have passed on the Rutgers job thinking that one more good year would bring him a better offer.

He's about to become to this decade what Gary Blackney was to the last and Tim Rose was to the one before that.

Even worse was that his brief flirtation with the offer had the added bonus of thoroughly screwing up his team's preparation for the MACC in 2000, and it likely cost them the title. Had I been the AD at the time, and a coach decided to take *the week of a championship game* to look for other jobs, I would have sent him packing long before kickoff.

Considering that UConn is reportedly hedging on showing up for their scheduled game in Muncie next season, I think this situation was, at the very least, a mutual decision between both schools.

Truly, the BROwNCOwS have "milked" themselves into a corner, or maybe I should say, "coroner." They can't buy him (doesn't he look like Glanville?) out, nor replace him at this point in time. As Kafka would say, "We're phucked, man!" :D

I have debated with Bronco Stampede the subject of whiasco ether Darnell should go or not and he has convinced me ( for he is a master debater 03-wink ) that we should give him at least one more year. The fiasco of 2000 tcked me off!.........not to mention the last 4 years. But, Darnell is a good coach and not only has learned his lesson, he needs to re-prove himself. WMU can only benefit from this.

As for Western's future, I see it as high. The Marshall guys like to talk about their fan base, but it is nothing to Western's and they could only fantasize about what western will be. Marshall has never sold out ( at least their stadium ) where WMU has gone well beyound it's seating capacity and has several MAC attendance records......MU? none. Kalamazoo's metro area = 479,000 with 3.5 mil. within 50 miles. When Western wins 2 maybe 3 Bowls in a row Waldo will expand and fill 40,000+. In West Michigan, collegiate apparel is U of M still # 1 and close WMU #2 and then MSU and ND....give us some bowls and see what happens.

Everyone here loves the U of M becouse they win and go to bowls every year. When WMU does the same, msu will fall to Western as # 2 in a big Football State.

BTW the Motor City Bowl has stated that their fantasy game would be WMU vs MSU and would be a total sell out on both sides.
