No official word on this, but did Bob Pruett mention this in his radio show the other night? The series goes back to the early 1900's, the schools are about 80 miles apart, and I believe continuing the series is the right move for both schools.

Ohio is better. . .

Only 80 miles away,
Battle for the Bell,
Use them as a tune-up to get ready for the season. 03-wink

I know Toledo has a bigger program than Ohio, but not only is a trip to Ohio more convenient to for Marshall fans, it also makes more sense from a recruiting standpoint. OU has always recruited West Virginia and frequently targets some of the same players.

Just my opinion, but I feel like Ohio is going to become a strong MAC program now that the commitment to a big athletic budget is there with the new president. Most MAC schools have cut sports while we've added. OU is a great place to go to school outside of football which can't hurt.

Big thing about ANY non-conference home and home series is that it adds a 5th home game every other year.

Sure makes it easier for Ohio having MUgreen coming alternate years.

It should keep both of us from needing to put any 1-AA on the schedule and for that I see it as a good idea.

Its rare to see two non-BCS schools maintain a series. The only other instances I can think of are TCU-SMU, and Army-Navy-Air Force. Its truely special to have something like this. Fiami is going to have a series with a BCS school next year, but with all due respect Marshall is a bigger program than UC.

If I remember correctly, the actual bell from the "Battle for the Bell" series was taken from an old riverboat/showboat. If that's the case, this series would fit right in with CUSA's "southern conference" vibe. :)

I would rather continue a game with Miami or Toledo who we actually had a rivalry with rather than some wannabe rivalry with the stupid bell.

People get about as excited playing Ohio as we do playing Buffalo.

Gameday when Miami or Toledo is on schedule. - 04-rock

Gameday with Ohio for the "bell" - :snore:

We've been playing each other since 1905. OU would play us back when we were still 1-AA which was good for us. I think there are alot of fans and graduates from both schools living in close proximity to each school. There are a lot of kids from southern Ohio that go to both schools. The rivalry has been down the last couple of years, but I expect it to pick up again when Ohio gets de-knored. When you stand back and look at the big picture (money, distance, guaranteed home game every other year) you will see that it is good for both schools.
