HuskieDan Wrote:crazywilly Wrote:HuskieDan Wrote:I again noticed a lot of missed tackles, and this was by pretty much everyone, though some seemed more "offending" than others - Boogie bounced off guys a few times and got caught out of position on a few of the bubble screens, and I simply didn't get the sense that Ray Smith was the tackling/run support presence that he has been much of this year. We also had some guys slipping on the turf. And Adriel Hansbro in particular had a couple weak tackling efforts on running plays, including one about 20 yard run down to our 10 (on the TD drive that made it 28-24) - he could have stopped it at a 5 yard gain.
As for coverage, I did not see particularly poor coverage by either CB. BSU threw very few passes over 10 yards, and I counted under 5 over 15 yards. Much of their game was underneath stuff, which we do give up but we simply didn't come up and tackle and show much hitting presence. We appeared to frequently man up wide, which meant they could run the CB off while having room underneath, which they took advantage of - often the CB would then be blocked by the WR they were on.
I didn't see Rob Lee as bad by any stretch. Like everyone else out there, he missed a couple plays. But I was more disappointed in Hansbro being out of position and not tackling aggressively on a few run plays, by Ray Smith & Boogie's tackling (their physicality at FS is a big reason our D can be so intimidating at times) and by Hawkins' reactions.
I do think we missed the Beast's speed and instinctiveness - much like Hawkins last year, I think Hutton is a better player at OLB where responsibilities are not as great, though he did show some speed getting to the QB on a couple occasions.
BTW - the last D play in OT appeared to be a poorly run pick play - both WRs ended up in the same spot, and that's definitely not supposed to happen. Hansbro made a great play to knock the ball out of the one WR's hands and both he and Lee had good coverage on their men (though Hansbro's was open for a sec).
This totally sounds like it's a spin to defend lee. He played like ******, they all played like ******, can we say anyone in that secondary played well?
All 4 of them didn't tackle or make plays, none were better or worse than the others.
So what you're saying is that you'd rather ***** than reasonably analyze what happened?
Note - I didn't say anyone on that D played "well", I simply reported what I saw rather than letting anyone "spin" it as one person "sucking".
Where is the bitching dan? They all played poorly and you agreed with what i said.

Crazy, you're a sad young man and I'm guessing pretty lonely, too. I think you need to step away from the key board. At my age I'm a little beyond fighting w/ irrational young dudes like yourself. How about you fight yourself. You'd have a 50-50 chance of coming out on top. Come on, lets get over this BS and talk about NIU football. We do all support the same team, right?

WIDOG Wrote:Crazy- Why is it that you believe anybody is motivated to 'spin' to defend Lee? It is clear to me that your analysis is not based on watching the game or fact. Instead, it does appear clear you have some other reason to rip Lee. Why not say what it is? How sad that the likes of you can't enjoy our great season without venomous personel attacks on individual players. You are one immature, sad young man; particularly since you hide behind the anonymity of a message board. I'd love to see 'fans' like you offer your 'opinions' directly to players. And if you'd like to discuss this directly with me, I'll be in the east parking lot next Tues and I'd be happy to oblige you.
You said this right WIDOG?!?!?!
You said it...so back it up.
You want to do it face to face, you suggested it...

Well, you did basically go right to "this must be spin" and tried to discredit my work.

I cannot believe this thread and this board! We should be reveling in the fact that the Huskies are where they are, and we spend the time and space bashing each other. Why are we so pissed because others feel differently than we do? C'mon, it's time to grow up, children!

Let that be a lesson to you........
We'll have to get more pressure on Gradkowski than we've been getting on other QBs, and if we get a chance for an interception, we need to actually catch the ball, instead of knocking the ball down or simply dropping it. Last year we made some big plays out of mistakes by the other team. It seems like this year we're not making the big plays on 'D', at least not lately.
Toledo will get their points, but we at least have to make them pay for their mistakes.

Are you SURE you want to meet me? Remember...I am coming to the game after a dinner of sausage, sauerkraut, beans, onions, and hard-boiled eggs - all washed down with a strong Irish brew. I will vanquish you without lifting a finger. My leg, perhaps, but not my finger. (However, out of courtesy, I may ask you to pull it. My finger, that is, not my leg.)

He may be somewhat of a "homer'' but I have alot more repect for the opinions expressed by Bob Cmiel than those belonging to a small subset of Huskie fans raggin' on certain players. He praised BSU for playing a great game and also suggested RobLee may get a shot at playing at next level.
The harshest critics might wanna try defending a Ridgeway or tacke Givens.
None of this suggests players were at their very best on each play but we need to cut some a bit of slack overall. They have gotten into the position they and fans wanted- a crack at MAC title.
Where are all those pessismstic voices who predicted a 6-5 season now?

I don't agree with this.....this is what fans do....they critique and discuss thier teams performance. Good or bad. I haven't read any post on here saying what these guys do is easy or that they (the person posting) could do it better. While I respect your point and am against bashing players myself, I don't think there is anything wrong with pointing out areas of improvement, as long as it is done tactfully, which sometimes it is not.

But he makes a good point - often it takes an outside voice to provide some perspective. We see every game passionately and may be swayed. Most of us also were not coaches and probably don't look at things in quite the same way that a coach up in the box would.
