Good article in Friday's Wall Street Journal (Weekend Journal section, page W13) about the MAC (titled "Knifing the MAC"). The article talked about some Division 1-A proposals that would potentially hurt non-BCS type schools (i.e., 12 game season, "free agency") and used MAC schools, including Northern Illinois as proxy. It also detailed Akron's attendance chanllenges (i.e., commuter school, stadium 9 miles from campus). Notably if Akron falls below 15K, the article said, it would be given a warning. If they fall below 15K in any other season in the next 10 years (assuming they don't reach 15K this year, which is highly likely) they are suspended from playing in a bowl game. And, if they don't reach 15K in the year after that, they get kicked out of 1-A.

Sorry I have no link...I don't pay for the online version...but if you've got the Wall Street Journal around its a good read.
