Holmes Center.

My apologies for the delayed post. Dang server went down just yesterday as I finished and was leaving for the day so I lost everything. Even worse this morning, dirty dang work is interefering with play time !

Host Craig HESS opened with saying; "Coach, you warned us about playing BSU at Muncie..."

JoeN jumped in immediately saying: " (again) ... Nobody listens to me and thinks its just coachspeak anyways. Keep in mind MD beat FSU with a team not as good as last year's Terps and look at what Baylor did."

" We jumped up 21-3 and let them hang around like UCF and we are luckly to have won both. There are no easy games in college football anymore."

Baker: "Big plays and special teams turn around games quickly and BSU's KO return did was welll as did a surprising & more diversified attack not anticipated with 8 receivers catching passes."

NOVAK: " Lynch played lites out and completed three passes late with guys in his face and even going down. Ever since having a target on our backs - and that beats the alternative - we get everyone's "A" game. I remember Lynch as a nine year old sitting next to Mrs. Novak at IU games." .........

(DWG translation: Lynch has something extra to prove - and did so)

" Haldi's 15 yard scamper in OT on a broken play is something a fifth yr senior can do well on his own. That was HUGE !"

" Also remember the contributions of two freshmen- Perez and Nendick."

"Wind was worse than start of CMU game but lessened as game moved on.... Wind can be a great equalizer during a game."

HESS: "Ever see so many failed kickoffs for penalties in a game?
NOVAK: "NOPE..... and it was not due to the wind."

"Ridgeway only played football senior year in Decatur IL, and he slipped by NIU recruiting staff...."

HALDI's academic award is really BIG TIME...It's quite a special honor"

"Wolfe is not too bad a runner for a guy I thought could carry the ball no more than 10-12 times a game...shows how smart I am." hahahas.

"Hawkins and Lee on bltiz in OT on third down was HUGE"

Rob Lee was player guest and Phil V was staff special guest.

Lee was asked by HESS:" What's it like to be playing last home game next Tuesday?"
LEE: "Crazy and went by so very fast."

Lee was a four sport athlete at Port Washington, WI a suburb just north of Milwaukee. Only injury was turf toe.

Hess asked if it was his dream -like most all HS players in Wisc.- to play for Badgers?

LEE: " Wisc. only d-1 team in state so alot of players think that."
(DWG: Lee never said it was his dream.)

Lee was hurt week before WISC-NIU game blowing out knee at USF.
During rehab Lee went to NOVAK and said PHIL V not doing his job. When Joe investigated , Phil laughed & said Lee is way ahead of schedule and works 10x more than prescribed and simply wants to play sooner.

One time Phil had to hide Haldi's helmet after concussion at CMU so he would not try to get back too early.

Team doctor not PHIL decides if a player is ready to return.

Discussion followed regarding remarkable improvements in rehab and surgeries with all the injuries common in football. McGahee (sp? -Miami) was one of many examples of full recoveries after severe injuries - in addition to Lee's recovery.

Another discussion followed re: comparing guidelines for publicizing injuries and playing status such as questionable, doubtful, etc. Basically- HIPPA requires college atheletes to give approval to publicize medical records so reports may be incomplete in college.

Third talking point was comparing merits of grass, fieldturf, nexturf and other surfaces as related to frequency of injuries and best to play on. Phil mentioned more high ankle injuries first year of fieldturf but fewer knee problems. There was agreement that nexturf when wet (UI and WMU) is very slick compared to others. Huskies have five pairs of shoes each to handle various conditions.

Novak credited and complemented Jenkins for researching and recommending fieldturf at NIU. Only minor complaint is that F.T. sprays mini rubber pellets in air and face occasionally.

Finally on to UT.

In luv with sreen pass and we did not see real Gradkowski at Miami...all agreed NIU tired of talking about T O L E _ O and we simply need to beat them----period.

Lee planning to pursue a career in law enforcment - especially after 9l11 - perhaps FBI - and next hopes to enroll in law school.

Lee closed saying we are ready. NIU plays one play/ one game at a time but this has been on players' minds since last season.

Audience asked two geeky questions for free t shirts:
How much adhesive tape is used? Answer: 400,000 feet or 7 miles Which are best hotels in Detroit ? answer: NO COMMENT.

Novak concluded urging fans to attend UT game and honor outgoing seniors who strung together records of 11-0 at home and 17-4 overall.

What was the deal with the kickoffs? Someone mentioned the natural turf? Was it just plain bad kicking? Was taking the illegal kickoff better than chancing it with the "special" teams?

no real in depth questioning the cause(s) and no real answers other than lousy kickoffs...

plus IMO seems like kicking to coffin corner on punts is no longer preferred...wonder why?

NOt sure how many here have followed BSU before that game, but Lynch began as the started, but was replaced during the WMU game with a frosh and they went on to beat 'em by like 28. He's started every since (Cole Stinson). Stinson apparently had a shoulder problem, which is why Lynch started against us. So Lynch made have wanted to look good for an old friend, but he also wanted to show that he could lead his team, as he had been replaced. Kid played great.

Ever since having a target on our backs - and that beats the alternative - we get everyone's "A"

Everyone, that is, except for Bowling Green.

By the way, I am glad NIU chose me as their playing surface too.

Perhaps, but that's all balanced by the fact that the cheerleaders do the splits all over him. 04-rock
