We want a BG win.  BG win gets us in the MAC championship.  Either the SV or GMAC will take a 9-2 ranked BG team.  Motor City & SV/GMAC will take the teams in the championship (except for Akron, unless Akron wins the championship).  If akron makes the championship and loses, look for Toledo to get the 3rd.

Guys, there could be as many as 5 mac teams going to bowls this year if things work out a particular way.  I'll post more on that tomorrow.
Good points, but we won't get 5 teams bowling - 4 will be the absolute max, and I don't have confidence in that. We know that bowls will take BCS conf teams first, and there will probably be a couple extra teams here and there.

We need to beat EMU. If BG loses, I think we get the third bid - Akron isn't an attractive bowl team win or lose against Miami. If BG wins, we're in great shape because we'll be in the MACC and one of our tie ins will want us.

But this weekend is imperative. Must win.
How's this for a bad omen? If we lose to EMU on Saturday, we finish the season 7-4, just as predicted by 85Alum last spring.
I don't want to take the time to research but I think alum originally predicted 6-5 before making his first revision to 7-4.

I rarely experience headaches and don't have one- yet - but figuring and fretting bowl over bids is not of much use. Tantalizing as it is to consider so many scenarios and read into the minds of bowl committees or their representatives, such pursuits may quickly lead to insanity.

Let's beat EMU. Whatever else happens, happens.

Would a good turnout by NIU road warriors in Ypsilanti have any influence on a bowl committee should we win and BG lose to UT?
I have heard of no fan bus trip?

There I go again ! Pass the aspirin.

And GO Rainbow Warriors - beat NU and MSU. Dare I also root for Illini as Cats need 7 wins?

BTW: Terry Greenstein of Trib recently appeared on comcast TV talk show with Jiggets and others. He said NIU was clearly not the best d1 team in illinois for that tag belongs to NU. Jiggets politely reminded audience that Terry is a Wildcat alum. Perhaps such a bowl matchup would take on extra "flava."

5 bowls - what are you smoking.

We can get NIU, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Miami. That's it. No MAC school with 4 or more losses is going bowling any time soon.

I know this is hard for you to hear, but BG would be a better draw in a bowl game than NIU regardless of our records, attendance and head-to-head matchup way back in Week 3.

What history does NIU have in bowl game travel???? Who can remember anything 20 years ago???

I don't know if I'd call driving an hour from Bowling Green to Detroit "traveling" to a bowl game.

Total nonsense. BG getting a couple thousand people to drive an hour to a game last year means nada. BG is no more appealing a bowl option than Akron.

NIU brings higher attendance, a wealthier alumni base and the huge Chicago TV market.

Gentlemen, this is finally it. If we win on Saturday, we're going bowling. Personally, I'm pulling for a Toledo win. Let them spend Christmas in friggin Detroit. I'd much rather spend New Years in the bay area.

Heck maybe I'll finally make it up to the wine country.... :)

Granted that we don't have a storied football history, but last year and this years success can't be dismissed.

BG brought a good number of fans to MCB, but that is a location near their fan base. Move over to the SVB, how many are willing to travel then?

Who would the bowl committee choose? A team with18K home average that went bowling last year. OR A team with a 27K home average that hasn't gone bowling in 20 years.

Not flaming BG, they are a deserving team. More deserving than NIU...we'll see after this weekend I guess.

I have a feeling that the only way we're going bowling is for us to beat EMU and BG to beat Toledo. Anthing less than this, and we stay home again. The Ohio MAC is promoting their own (BG).

i agree with that.

The MAC is about ohio, and they are doing what they have to do to get their teams in. This should be expected. Probably the main reason i'd be for leaving the MAC is because of the crap that goes on with the state of ohio, it's hard for a conference to do well when it's based out of one state, unless your state actually has good teams like florida, and even then they only have 2 schools in a conference together.

If NIU beats EMU, then they are one of three 7-1 teams in the MAC. BGSU vs Toledo will not matter.

Once again, NIU controls their own fate. 04-rock

BGSU vs Toledo will matter, as far as the MAC Championship is concerned, but it will not keep the Huskies out of a bowl game. I must be going crazy! I am arguing with myself. 04-cheers

If NIU beats EMU and Toledo beats BGSU we will get the third bid. If not, all of those that have said the MAC is the right place for NIU should shut up.

NIU would be MAC West Co-Champ, BGSU would be in third.
NIU would have a much better average attendance than BGSU.
NIU won big over BGSU.
NIU should be ranked in ESPN Top 25 after beating EMU.

We would have to get a bowl bid. Otherwise, the MAC would be a joke.

yes, after our 10-2 record with no bowl. I'm not getting excited about anything until we beat EMU and BG beats Toledo or we get an invite. I don't want to feel the disappointment of hoping like last year :crying:

I completely agree. We got screwed out of a bowl bid last year, and I'm expecting the same thing this year UNLESS we beat EMU and BG beats Toledo. Once our fate leaves our hands, I have very little confidence in the "system". Of course, I hope I'm proven wrong should Toledo beat BG.

My inside sources tell me that BG in the SVB is pretty much a done deal regardless of the result of the UT-BG game, so for your sake, you better hope we win and you beat EMU because anything short of the MACC may mean you are sitting home again. So actually, you are getting hurt more than BG for our contest being so early in the season.

And laugh all you want about the MCB being close, but it is a fact that we did bring 20,000+ fans to the game and as I said, when was the last time NIU brought fans to a bowl game anywhere? And like last year, if BG hosted the Toledo and NIU games this year, our attendance would be up significantly.

And yes, I think you guys are deserving of a bowl bid.

Bottom line...you just gotta win the big game and take the title. Until then, you have no one to blame but your own team...and maybe a certain running back.

There is no way in hell they will take BG if BG loses and NIU wins.......
So NIU is back in top 25, BG falls, but they will still take BG with a poor attendance record
compared to NIU???

How many dozen BG fans will be going to the SVB?

Tom, do I think BG is deserving of a bowl bid? Absolutely. But I also think NIU is. What kind of deal was made between the MAC, BG, and the SVB bowl committee? I'd bet my nuts that there was a passage of money in the deal, if it's true. BG gets a bid now, and if you lose to Toledo and we beat EMU, we have a better record than BG. C'mon, now, see if you can figure how much $$ changed hands in the "deal"!
