FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas and its track and field program received news Wednesday that the school will host the NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships through 2005.

Arkansas has been the host of the NCAA Indoor Championships since construction of the Randal Tyson Track Center was completed in the winter of 2000. During the three championships more than 30,000 have attended the event, seeing 19 championship and collegiate records broken over that time.

"We have always considered it a privilege to host NCAA events here on our campus," said Arkansas women's athletic director Bev Lewis. "To have the opportunity to host a national championship for three more years is both an honor for the university and a credit to our staff's hard work the past three years."

Arkansas was one of several sites to bid on the championship for the next three years, gaining the approval of the NCAA Track and Field Committee and the NCAA Championships cabinet after all factors were considered. Some of the most important votes of confidence came from athletes and coaches who have traveled to Fayetteville the past three years.

"I've heard from many people that we have one of the finest facilities in the Americas," said Arkansas women's coach Lance Harter said. "We get great fan support and those fans are appreciative of all the efforts of the athletes."

The Razorbacks won the first national championship in any sport in Fayetteville in 2000 and three Lady Razorbacks and three Razorbacks have won individual championships since the Tyson Center first hosted the event.

The 2003 NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 14-15.

Football stadium has to be one of the best in the nation....Walton Arena, Baum Stadium, and the Tyson Track Complex all have been named the #1 facility for their respective source by some media outlet.

Give all the credit to the generous donors, and to Frank Broyles for his vision of the Razorbacks.
