Nebraska is falling apart. They had their first losing season since 1961 and now 5 players have left the team, including a team captain and the leading receiver as a junior.

3 offensive lineman and 2 wide receivers have left the team.

Interesting quote:

"We'd have meetings, and more than a few times he'd mention, 'In the NFL it was like this, in the NFL we did it this way.' "You know what, we're not in the NFL. We're college kids trying to play football and get our degree. We don't care about people in the NFL. It's way too professional down here."

Interesting, indeed. It just goes to show: even at a BC$ school not every player is on an "NFL fast-track" program. If more was needed, I guess this is further illustration of the difference in mentality between the college and pro games.

While I agree that UNL made a mistake w/ Callahan (option football works) every team sees players weeded out w/ a new coach/system. Many coaches prefer it.

This doesn't really come across as 'news'.

Yeah, I don't think we really need a "beat up Nebraska day", it sounds like they are gonna have at least 11 of those next year. 03-lol

True, true. But the latest player was a team captain this year and led the team in receptions. That's a little odd to have happen with a new coach if you are getting the most passes thrown to you and were named a captain.

The even bigger part of the story for me though is the comments made about Callahan using a NFL approach and some players are obviously not liking it. In my eyes, I hate the NFL and the way that most players and coaches act and I don't want to see that filtering down to the collegiate level.

So true. My reasoning for beat up on Nebraska day was because right before this I posted about the Houston AD criticizing the Nebraska AD and football program. He used some very harsh words.

Callahan's players aren't getting along with him? What a huge surprise.

How many will transfer to Ohio U?

That's a question you need to ask.

And what would we call these transplants? Cathuskers? Bobhuskers? Corncats?

Axeme,

You're thinking of Ohio State. I've recently learned that Ohio U. is a different school entirely and is the State Flagship University. :D

2 players aren't going to make that big of an impact, plus they will have to sit a year. My guess is they will go to a lower division program so they don't have to sit.

After reading Kit Kat's pearls of wisdom, I thought
that OU was Ohio's Starship University.

I think the official term for newly adopted Husker Bobcats is "Huskercats." 03-wink

On the OU board they are HuskerCats and the amount of attention and interest they show in following Solich and their adoption of OU football is amazing. It will be interesting to see if and how long it takes their interest to wear out.

How about Cornbobs? It could set up a whole tailgating
tradition. The washtubs could then be used as stadium drums.
