Atlanta, Ga. -- Sophomore Michael Thomas and junior Eddie Jackson earned automatic qualifying times in the 110-meter hurdles at the Reebok Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday night. Thomas captured the title with a career-best and the second-fastest time in UA school history (13.51). He is second to Kevin White’s time of 13.41 in 1997. Jackson ran a career-best time of 13.68 in the prelims.
At the SEC Championships on May 11-12 Thomas and Jackson finished third and fourth, and had already earned automatic times of 13.66 and 13.72, respectively. They were both looking to improve their performances at the Reebok Invitational.
Three Razorbacks ran in the 1,500 meters. Freshman Said Ahmed finished third with a provisional qualifying time of 3:44.68. Freshmen James Hatch and Michael Taylor finished sixth (3:46.11) and 24th (3:55.10), respectively.
Senior Andrew Beasley, Ahmed and Hatch also ran in the 800 meters. Ahmed finished first in his heat (1:49.83), Beasley finished with a time of 1:50.56 and Hatch finished with a time of 1:54.08.
In the long jump sophomore Ramon Washington finished seventh with a mark of 24-4.50.
The Razorbacks will now prepare for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La., on May 29-June 2.
