This is great news. It should have immediate benefits.

Also, the appointment of Dan Hughes (not sure I have the name right) to a high level MAC conference position dealing with MAC basketball shows that serious attention is being given to improving MAC basketball. I know that Hughes resigned to take a coaching position in the WNBA, but the position he held is still in place and is being filled by a temporary appointment.

I'm thinking we're going to see a real effort to improve MAC basketball. Right now, I'm not sure what specifics might be involved, but I see action coming.

Maybe some of you have ideas about what might lie ahead.

I'd like to see a MAC-MVC challenge series in November or December each year taking the top 6 teams from each conference. These are the top two mid-major conferences in basketball. With ESPNU starting up maybe they would be interested in the rights for this?

An early season MAC-MVC Challege would be awesome.

The MAC certainly needs to become a two bid minimum conference.

Or a good mixture of the FoxSports (Ohio, Chicago, Detroit, Midwest) would pretty much cover it. The way FSN is set up; they could do this all over the country.

=>I would say the West Coast Conference might take exception that that statement. You know, teams like San Francisco, St. Mary's, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Pepperdine, etc.

He is not on this spring. He is on the committee beginning in 2006. I believe Dan Hughes left his position with the MAC shortly after taking it in order to take a WNBA coaching job.
