Forget about how Temple fared in the Big East. They were destroyed by BG last year, and will probably be fodder for the handful of MAC teams they face this year. Question is, will they be able to attract the same level of recruits as a member of the MAC as they did in the Big East? They are probably five years away from turning it arround, much like we were in 1997.
in 2003, BG beat Ohio U 72-21, and it was never close.

Ok, but we can't just look at this move in terms of football. When we came into the MAC, we came in as an ALL-SPORTS member, and we brought with us some pretty decent non-football athletic programs. So too for Buffalo.

Temple's refusal to commit to the MAC for anything but football suggests they see us as a waystation until they figure out what they want to do with said floundering program.

I understand Dan's point about us still fighting for notoriety and respect as a conference, but I don't think that we want to gain that notoriety as a place where div-1 football programs go to die....

IF the scenario described above with TU and WKU becoming members in stages for all sports including bball , do most here still view TU's membership as a bad deal for MAC?

These "other sports" you speak of have no bearing on a conference membership decision except for the possibility of reducing travel costs. Otherwise, it is the big sports that drive that bus.

FC - exactly which programs have "died" after joining the MAC, giving us the rep as the place for such teams?

Which are most most likely to happen?

A) TU will continue to suck winning no more than one or two MAC games in any one of the next five seasons.

B) Owls will reach .500 by end of third season in MAC.

C) MAC office will consciously add more softer than tougher MAC teams at TU during the transition period of their half arsed membership. (Mite this issue been addressed during negotiations?)

D) MAC office will schedule more tougher MAC programs at TU to avoid having Owls win the division & represent East in a title game anytime before 2008.

Has anyone noticed/mentioned yet that Temple is the only MAC team to have 6 home games. Everyone else has 5 home games (except for Ball State, who only has 4).

I wouldn't want to trade schedules in order to claim that distinction.
