Who was first? My money is on Ohio. If this is an old topic....sorry.
OHIO
Stand up and cheer,
Cheer loud and long for old Ohio,
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest.
Our teams are fighting
And they are bound to win the fray.
We’ve got the team,
We’ve got the steam,
For this is old Ohio’s day!
Rah! Rah! Rah!
WKU
"Stand Up and Cheer"
Stand up and cheer
For dear old Western
For today we raise
The red and white
Above the rest
Rah-rah-rah
Our boys are fighting
And we're bound to win the fray
We've got the team
We've got the steam
For this is dear old Western's day.

No, not an old topic at all. That's pretty funny.
Reading those lyrics reminded me of the Old Bobcat (aka my dad). "Stand Up and Cheer" was one of many tunes he used to like to belt out despite his utter lack of pitch.
A somewhat older topic is whether UNC ripped off "Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba" (which they use as an alternate fight song) from Bowling Green. I have long asserted that they did and like to use that to goad Tar Heel fans.

"Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zoomba
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Ze
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zoomba
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Ze
Roll along you BG warriors
Roll along and fight for BGSU!"
Well duh! Where else would they the BGSU from?
Nice to know that Tarheels fight for BGSU.
I think a deeper question is whether BG was trying to rip off the Marquette's mascot. Guess that's not an issue anymore.

The start of our fight song is well-documented.
Gilbert Fox, BG '48, heard something like it while serving with South African troops in Italy and brought it back to Bowling Green, where he attended on the G.I. bill. He sung it during a school assembly, and it stuck right away.
All that said, I'm open to other theories.
Through some hard core Googling, I once turned up a site of old camp songs that just described it as an old Zulu war chant (this was Fox's understanding, too) and didn't offer any sort of history.
I'm willing to allow that perhaps the song migrated to our shores separately and that, perhaps, North Carolina came across it independently.
Do they offer any sort of explanation of how the song became theirs?

I always heard that Moses delivered WKU's fight song as he came down from the mountain... So that would make ours older!

Ohio's (the real :D ) "Stand Up And Cheer" has been around since "the early 1900s" according to ohiobobcats.com. Any idea when WKU's was started?

Good point Prime.
Was that in the gospel according to Ed or Henry?
Does anyone know how long we have been using "Stand Up and Cheer? Ask Gilbert or Jeff on Haven.....I am not a member. We may not like the outcome of this one.

realbig,
FYI, I have an Ohio University songbook dated 1925. It has around 21 songs, including Stand Up and Cheer.
Our original lyrics were all the same, but instead of "Our team is fighting" it was "Our boys are fighting." I seem to remember the University changing that line somewhere around the mid-90's.

If Ohio plays Western Kentucky will the whole crowd stand up for the same fight song  ? It will be a sight to see. I wonder if two teams having the same fight song playing on the same field at the same time has ever happened?

I guess it depends on who scored or just made the big play. Although this could be confusing during pregame warmups at a neutral site like Gund arena or Ford Field.
