I've respected Marshall for many years - even back in the day when they were known for basketball, not football. The Herd built up their share of accomplishments on the gridiron since returning to the MAC as well. Because of that, I'm glad to welcome them to C-USA.
I also respect the MAC. The 2003 season alone proved what the league can accomplish (BTW, I considered Northern Illinois' victory over Maryland one of the locks of the year going into that season - I was just shocked that the Terps managed to send it to overtime). The record the MAC has built up against C-USA in Mobile effectively eliminates any smack talk, that's for sure!
Do I believe we will become "C-USA Lite"? Not really. Obviously, the biggest hit is in basketball - but, at the same time, the league hasn't accomplished much in the NCAAs, with the exception of the two Final Four runs and UAB's advancement to the Sweet 16. We won't get six in the dance, but I expect two to three bids to be the norm, and the league should be more competitive and fun to watch as well.
In football, Louisville's improvement over the last couple of years will be the only real loss - and this is a school that was 1-10 just a few years ago. The team that's won the most titles in league history - Southern Miss - remains. There are also other strong programs, both ones that are remaining and ones coming in. I don't see any reason the league will even skip a beat on the gridiron.
For a while, the MAC was a one-trick pony in football - Marshall. That definitely hasn't been the case lately, and I see no reason the league won't be just as strong as it has been the last few years.
In other words, I don't see a winner and a loser in this deal. I think both leagues will be just fine.
Louisville is a huge FB and BB loss. The football team is on the verge of being a"top10" team.
CUSA had a top ten team before Louisville.

wrxknight Wrote:If you MAC fans really think that the Heisman is going to a non-BCS school QB then keep dreaming. Omar's career sounds great, he had a great season, but the rest is pure speculation. IF he does this for 4 yrs, IF he does that for 4 yrs. Many IF's there. As far as the comparison to Culpepper is concerned, you are comparing speculation of what you predict Omar will do vs. what Daunte actually did and to add to it you're picking and choosing the stat categories. So I'll help out and add one in, Culpepper had the highest completion percentage of any QB in DIA EVER, as in ranked #1. See, we can all play that game. You are right that Omar's first year was better than Daunte's, Culpepper actually took a few years to develop, but until Omar is starting for his NFL conference in the pro bowl we know who the better QB is.
To piggy back:
Shaun King has the all-time single season efficiency rating, and did so on an undefeated, top 10 team.
Ricky Williams won the Heisman that year (deservedly so).
FWIW, Jacobs reminds me a lot of King.
