Toledo is my all time favorite zoos places to visit (zoo or no).

The architecture is awesome. Many of the buildings be constructed during the 30's. They very rarely - if ever - tear down their older structures to make way for "improvements. The Avery Building still amazes me. They kept the same style for the building both internally and externally, but they improved the exhibit space and created a better flow through the building.
The old carnivore building could have easily been torn down. It was falling apart and they only had 1 or 2 animals still left in there (a tiger and another type of critter, if memory serves.) The building was preserved, however, because they turned it into a very cool food court (although there is a little too much aqua marine color for my taste).

The exhibit space is comfortable for the animals but the patrons of the zoo are still able to get relatively close. Not like the Cleveland zoo where you have to take your binoculars to even see a rough outline of an animal.

The zoo is always clean, the employees helpful (and actually know what the heck is going on), and makes for a very comfortable day. I have yet to visit the zoo and feel rushed, pushed, or cramped.

I live in the Cleveland area, but I am a member of the Toledo Zoo. That should be an indicator of how much I enjoy that zoo.

I've always wanted to take the science bldg and the aquarium and make a house. How freaking cool woud that be?

Other than the University, I actually like Toledo. The cost of living is pretty low. 5/3 Field, the zoo and museum are first rate. There's tons of restaurants and diners (I love the Star Diner!!!) You're close to Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago so you have plenty of professional sports options and you're just a short drive from Bowling Green.

I think the city is at a critical juncture economically. Jack Ford is a disaster. As odd as he is, I think Carty is just the type of cheerleading knucklehead the city needs to generate some enthusiasm.

Of course, I'm hightailing it up to Monroe county next month, so I won't get to vote....
