Did you care to look at the title of the thread that you posted this little gem on?
Its a half a dozen doorknobs with nothing better to do on a summer day. Six doorknobs is not a statistically vaild sample size to determine what Illini nation thinks, or doesn't think, about NIU. Honestly, I don't believe they spend much time worrying about us. Both my brother and sister (and their spouses) attended U of I. Both actively follow Illini sports. When asked the question what do the Illini think of NIU, they answer "huh?" Surely many of you know Illini grads. Go ask them their reaction to NIU. I bet you get the same response. They don't need us and we don't need them. Call it a happy co-existence built off of indifference.
So your telling me you know all of ILLini Nation and how many "doorknobs" worry about us.
Please don't be a MORON - there are way more than 6 ILLini fans who don't like NIU becoming a household name in college football.
Why do you think the U of ILL fights to keep down NIU's Engineering School, Law School, etc. It's because they don't want NIU to compete with them.

To many NIU Alums have this opinion. They defer to U of I grads rather than getting in their face concerning their attitude towards NIU. We should be watching every move they make, because it does impact NIU. The latest is their desire to receive some level of state funds for the planned Memorial Stadium renovations. They should get the same amount that NIU has gotten over the past 20 years for Athletic facilities. $0.

Where do you come up with this stuff??
Once again:
Quote: Private suites and club seats are a "revenue engine" that would raise $5 million in new revenue annually, said Mike Handelman of HNTB, a Kansas City, Mo., firm that is completing a feasibility study on stadium renovations.
Along with a $5 surcharge on all tickets but those for students, advertising revenue and perhaps $15 million in naming rights for suites or the press box, the UI has potential revenue to pay for a $127 million to $145 million project, Handelman said.

AND Here is the Illinois Board of Higher Education report on athletics expenditures:<a href='http://www.ibhe.state.il.us/Board/Agendas/2001/June/item09.pdf' target='_blank'>LINK</a>
NOTE:
NIU recieved more tax payer funds THAN ANY OTHER STATE UNIVERSITY in 1992 for athletics (1.7million+), and was still receiving $153,800 in 2000.
Illinois was receiving 74k in 1992, and by 2000 was NOT RECEIVING ANY STATE AID for athletics... neither was any other school in the UIllinois system.
I am really curious where you keep getting these ideas that Illinois is receiving state funds for facilities? Because it sure as hell isn't rooted in fact.

I love it when you talk statistics to me... :tasha:
You're absolutely correct on this, but 30 is the generally accepted sample size to represent a population distribution. I think we've got more than 30 people on this board, although not randomly selected from the entire population (of humans!).

We are fast approaching a key date re : "put up or shut up for NIU fans."
Many have bought into all the hype.
Many here will likely learn a hard lesson to swallow :

I still think that if our defense comes to play, we walk away with this one. If we have no pass rush and the DBs can't cover, look out.

....walk away may be a hyperbole of sorts...any old "W" would make me estatic....
.... & for any of those naive fans who wish to 2 believe a "w" is easy, I offer otherwise.
Respect your opponent.
NEVER underestimate their abilities nor the "X" factors including weeks of hearing about the best D-1 program in Illinois...

I do respect NU and I do think that we can leave there with either a "W" or "L". This is going to depend on our ability to stop their passing game. If we can't, look out because then they will be able to do either and run us right out of Evanston.

IMO, it generally starts with stopping the run, and despite NU's spread "look", they run the ball A LOT. We need to slow up the run, then not let them convert all those third and longs via the pass.

Agree that we definitely need to stop the run also. The QB having a field day passing could be lighting up the scoreboard was the basis of my earlier thought.
