After a few decades of following college sports I have come to believe that the first leg up for a rebuilding program is to attain the respect of the community and the opposing teams. After seeing the predictions from several magazines and reading the recent articles in the AA News I believe Genyk has accomplished that feat. Also, I think the days of other MAC teams pencilling in a "W" the day they meet EMU on field are over. It's certainly over for Central and Western. On any given Saturday, Eastern can beat you. I'm looking forward to more progress this year. Maybe next year EMU will have progressed beyond earning respect to earning the fear of their opponents.

I like the enthusiasm, though I think you're ahead of the curve here. The Hurons have a better team, for sure, but it's a tough climb from where they've existed the last several years to the top of the MAC.

Western's new coach has revived interest in that once-proud program and few doubt that the Chips are on the upswing, too. If Eastern improves, they may merely be keeping pace with their Directional Brothers.

The West will be a battle for third. UT & NIU are locks for 1 & 2 (with Toledo the hands-down favorite). Then i'ts up to Eastern, Central, Western and Ball State.

But to your other point, has Eastern made strides with the Ypsi community? That support could certainly help sustain the program through this building process.
