per ESPN.com.....

Former Alabama quarterback Brian Burgdorf, the MVP of the 1993 Gator Bowl, was arrested Thursday on bad check charges.

Burgdorf, 29, was arrested and jailed in Tuscaloosa on a misdemeanor check charge. The Birmingham resident is also wanted in Bessemer on a fugitive warrant for a felony check charge and in Birmingham on four misdemeanor bad check charges.

"I know he's been arrested, and I'll do everything I can to represent his interests,'' Ron Marlow, Burgdorf's attorney, told The Birmingham News on Thursday. "He's going to be transferred back (to Jefferson County) as soon as possible because there's a warrant pending.''

Court records show that Bessemer authorities issued a fugitive warrant for Burgdorf on June 17 after he failed to appear for a June 10 trial before District Judge Eric Fancher.

Burgdorf is also wanted in Birmingham on four misdemeanor warrants for writing worthless checks, said C.M. "Butch'' Quinn, director of the Jefferson County District Attorney's worthless check division.

Quinn said those checks totaled about $1,500.

A native of Cedartown, Ga., and an All-America quarterback in high school, Burgdorf spent three seasons as a backup to Jay Barker at Alabama and was part of the Crimson Tide's 1992 national championship team.

As a sophomore, Burgdorf led the Crimson Tide to a 24-10 victory over North Carolina in the Gator Bowl after Barker was injured and missed the end of the season. Burgdorf ran for one touchdown and threw for two in the game.

Two years later, as a senior, he opened the season at quarterback and led Alabama in passing but eventually lost his job to Freddie Kitchens.
