MU quarterback pleads guilty, placed on probation
The Herald-Dispatch
HUNTINGTON — Marshall University quarterback Bernie Morris pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of battery Monday morning in Cabell County Circuit Court.
Morris, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., was sentenced to 12 months in Western Regional Jail, but Morris’ sentence was suspended and he was placed on one year of probation. He also was ordered to pay restitution to the victim totaling $484.04 in medical expenses.
The football player initially was charged with a felony count of malicious wounding stemming from an Oct. 10, 2004, incident involving a woman at a Huntington bar.

My guess is that Stan Hill will be brought back to give a speech on how to run from the police so he doesn't get caught next time.

I see that a WV radio personality made the "mistake" of criticizing the Herd for having a guy like Morris on the team.....no doubt that'll initiate a boycott of sorts of his station by the Herdiban faithful! Rule #1: No matter how unsavory, thou shall not criticize the Herdiban and the character of their players!
P.S. This isn't the first time this guy has been in trouble, is it?

How funny. I love how much the MAC hates Marshall, but still continues to follow our troubles.
As to Morris, he was basically suspended for 8 games last year. He was already punished for the incident. Unless the all mighty MAC thinks people should be punished twice for committing the same crime, I suggest finding out the facts before jumping to conclusions.
Quote from Coach Snyder from today's Gazette:
“He was suspended for eight games last year and he signed an agreement with me that he has honored. We are now ready to move forward.

Yes he was going to play....accoring to Pruett (can't currently find the link, but I'll get it if needed), we were going to start working Morris into game situations to build for this year. In practices before the incident with Morris, he was getting more time with the 1s and 2s in anticipation of increased playing time. That all changed when he was in the wrong place, and made some apparent stupid decisions. The 'official' suspension was for 1 game, but seeing how he did not recieve any playing time for the rest of the season (7 more games), it was effectively an 8 game suspension.
Funny thing is about you MACsters...when Marshall does not punish people for doing things you whine. And when we do punish people for doing things, you still whine. :-)

Well, if you don't like us talking or whining about Marshall on the MAC board then just don't come over here and you will never know about it.

Hmmmm . . . Miami's third-string quarterback didn't take a snap last season. -- which was "effectively" a twelve-game suspension. I wonder what he did wrong.
When Snyder (finally!) kicked Roger Garrett off the team, I was willing to consider that your program had finally instilled some discipline. But his ex post rationalizations to keep Morris on the field for all of 2005 tell me two things. First, he's a lot more worried about William & Mary than y'all are. And, more importantly, that down in Huntington, coaches come and go, but the metastisized booster culture reigns eternal.
BTW, you shouldn't mistake disgust for whining.
Best personal regards,
DG

Marshall needed Morris on the field last year. Stan Hill was hurt, Goke was hurt and Morris was the only QB with '04 game experience (until the incident) besides Hill and Goke. Morris played in nearly every game (in fact, I believe it WAS every game) as either QB or receiver until the incident.
So, call it what you will - a suspension or simply being punished through no playing time - your backup QB analogy doesn't apply here. Morris would have played if not for the incident.... not because there were better players in front of him.
