SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The Independence Bowl has renewed its tie-in agreement with the Southeastern Conference.

The previous agreement with the SEC expired after last season's game. Both bowl and league officials have been working for several months on renewing a partnership that began in 1995.

"We've got a letter of agreement and we're just hammering out the final details contract-wise," Independence Bowl executive director Glen Krupica said. "So we'll be with those guys."

SEC associate commissioner Mark Womack said there were only a few minor details to work out.

"It should be pretty much the same bowl lineup that we've had in the past," Womack said.

The Independence Bowl renewed its agreement with the Big 12 in April. That contract runs from 2002-05. The bowl has a shared fifth selection of bowl-eligible Big 12 teams.

The previous agreement with the SEC gave the bowl the shared sixth selection with the Music City Bowl in Nashville. The new agreement apparently will not change much.

The Independence Bowl, which will pay teams $1.2 million each this year, will be played on Dec. 27.

As long as they keep the Weed Eater label off for good...it's fine to keep it <img border="0" alt="[laugh]" title="" src="graemlins/laughing.gif" /> .

Though Ole Miss right now hates that bowl committee with a passion that burns within.

Personally, I just want em to keep the Cotton Bowl going. That's an Arkansas lock every year as long as we win 7 games, lol.

Agreed. That Poulan WeedEater Independence Bowl moniker has to be one of the cheesiest sponsor tie-ins in history.

No wait...the new Continental Tire Bowl in Charlotte probably should get that prize. To think it could have been called the Queen City Bowl...oh well, bowls must bow to the almighty dollar. <img border="0" alt="[Bow]" title="" src="graemlins/bow.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Saber]" title="" src="graemlins/saber.gif" />

Very thankful that the SEC has no Tire Bowl bid <img border="0" alt="[laugh]" title="" src="graemlins/laughing.gif" /> .

SEC might be getting bowl bid #9 with the Houston Bowl. It was the galleryfurniture.com bowl...but changed its name to try to appease the conference. (and also imo to keep from being laughed at more).
