I've got an idea...
Why not kick out Vandy and add Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State, or Louisville?
each of the 5 I mentioned would add more to the conference than Vandy does currently.
Yeah, I know... they are smart and a founding member, but seriously... they stink in nearly every sport this side of women's basketball.

GT left the SEC for a reason
Clemson and FSU would take a $2,000,000 paycut a year.
Miami is going to the ACC if they go ANYWHERE
Louisville would be in over their head. Who wants to put up with SEC fans like rock_bama ??

I honestly wish you guys had stayed, or we at least played each other regurlay, as we used to. That would be a very interesting matchup these days, especially with AJ Suggs transferring to GT.
As for putting up with rock_bama, we all ahve to do it anyway, so you might as well be in the same conference and whipping his team's *** while doing it.

Georgia Tech left because of SEC Scholarship standards, and demanded changes or they'd leave.
There was also an incident involving a GT player - I'll have to double check to make sure my facts are straight though.

This may surprise a lot of people, but under Bobby Dodd Tech USED to have one of the best programs in the nation. Georgia Tech thought the revenue sharing arrangement the SEC had in place was unfair, as they did not get as much back out as they put in. So they decided to go independant and leave the conference. The program then went into a long decline and even scheduling became a problem. Therefore they went looking for a conference affiliation, and ended up on the ACC.

I'd love to play Georgia Tech more.
Did you know that Louisville and Georgia Tech have never met in football?
weird, huh?
I'd love to see Georgia Tech, Florida State, Clemson, NC State, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Miami, and some others play in football.
Many of those were affiliates of the old Metro.

With U of L's football team on track, and Rick Pitino getting his recruits in here on the hardwood, UL is about to be too good for the C-USA. I'd swap UK for UL in the SEC anyday.

I was being sarcastic - rock_bama is an infamous moron in the college sports discussion world. My toaster oven would provide more intelligent talk than him. No... REALLY.....

Why? Mainly because of Dodd. And who did Dodd learn from? General Neyland. And where did Neyland coach? Well, you get where this is going...lol

orangetd88, I can't believe you put me in a position where I have to defend Tech!

First of all this was before my time, I was about 8 years old when Dodd gave up coaching. Dodd and Neyland had nothing in common in the way they coached. Bryant used to say, that he could never be successful with Dodd's coaching methods, he was to nice to his players. A strange concept, he was the first to do it, but it worked. Neyland was known as a hard *** .

But Tech and UL will be meeting soon. A home-and-home is scheduled for 2008 (in Atlanta) and 2009 (in Louisville).

Mystery solved:
From the book "Dodd's Luck":
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
Bobby Dodd insisted there was no other reason he left the SEC, other than the 140 Rule. The 140 Rule stated a college program could only have 140 football and basketball players on scholarship at any one time. The teams were allowed to sign up to 45 players a year, but could not exceed the 140 Rule.
Dodd would not allow any of the football players choosing Tech to be dismissed from Tech, because they were not good players. Dodd said,

I prefer the money story, I like it much better. Plus, I would find it too painful having to go through Bobby Dodds memoirs in order to do the research necessary to dispute that version.
Just kidding, Bobby Dodd was a great coach and a great man. Too bad there weren't more like him.
