Good ole Steve Logan on the radio...
The first time I've ever heard him mention ECU... I'll try and sum up what he said, cause he made a good point:

He was asked whether or not Amato should be fired, and his answer began with "I wasn't gonna bring this up, but I think I am far enough removed from the situation that people won't think I'm throwin' sour grapes"

He then explained that he's met Skip Holtz once, at Keith LeClair's funeral, and that he's been very impressed with the way Skip has got the ECU program going. Then he brought up the Rice game. He explained that the Rice game was a devestating loss to the Pirates, they had an opportunity to be in the conference championship game, lost to a program you expect to beat, ect. ect.

Here came his point: He said: "If that loss had come in Skip Holtz's fifth, sixth or seventh season at East Carolina, how do you think people would be reacting right now???"

From listening to him, I honestly don't think he was throwing sour grapes, and removed from the fact that he was the winningest coach in our history who lost his job on bad terms, I think it was an interesting point. If it was coming from anyone else, I would consider it a valid point. What do ya'll think?

And what does all that have to do with whether or not Amato should be fired?

I think he was just pointing out how easy it is to lose your job in todays coaching world... he was saying that its a predictable pattern, all it takes is a few bad games in lousey season in your 5th, 6th or 7th year and you are done.

He finished by saying he didn't know whether or not Amato should be fired.

It depends. If the loss came in years 5-7, and we'd had 5-7 years of 6-6 or worse, then yeah, Skip would probably feeling a little heat. If it came after a good season with a lot of turnover in personnel, then no. That's just one of them things. If it came in the midst of a great season with good players *cough*UAB*cough*Logan*cough* then we'd all be pissed but not ready to hang him.

No doubt, and I'm thankful that he was here as long as he was as he put ECU on the map in the 90's, but it's one-sided to say he's the winningest coach in history -- he was here the longest, so he's got more wins and more losses than any other coach. Not a slam on him at all, but it's just facts.

How much longer was Logan here than the next winningest coach?

Logan was coach 11 years, 127 games, which he won 69 of.
Clarance Stasavich had 50 wins (2nd most all time), coached 8 years in 78 games.

Stasavich's win % - 64.7%
Logan's - 54.3%
