Okay already.. you made your point. What do you want, for me to stand in front for that Jesus statue in Rio and cry until I see visions of Him on my hands...?

If you are going to pray for forgiveness in front of any statue it should be this one...

CUSABBs is a great board system....I've obviously been an active member of the community for a long time (was actually a moderator of THIS board when it first came up), and enjoy the CUSA and BE boards immensely.

That being said, I have a hard time stomaching folks bashing a true Pirate like Mark and cozying up to a guy like Derrek......I'll tell you, I felt a HUGE betrayal when Derrek did what he did - not only for ECU, but for myself. I considered Derrek a damn good friend, and it became obvious after the fact that Derrek's only best friend is Derrek.....so when I comment about him or that situation, it has nothing to do with unc-ch or conspiracies or anything of the like - it is personal with me and with ECU, and with someone I felt wronged by on those fronts. I have no problem laying off calling him out over here - It would just be nice to see PIRATES over here look out a little more for their own.....

Cap, most of us that were around when Big Daddy wigged out, gave him hell, and we continue to take shots at him to this day. We just don't do it continuously. I think what he did was low and it sucked big time. That being said, I have never met him so I don't have the "personal" issues that you have.

I don't claim that OTM is not a true pirate, nor would I ever. However I do think he is insane, etc. At the time that I found this place, I was posting at byb and pfn. As soon as I started posting here, I started getting PM's from OTM at pfn warning me about the ACC people that ran this board. Then, I became a mod on the ECU forum and he started sending me more PM's about how if I was a true Pirate I would ban mongo. I responded and told him that I didn't have that power. Then I went away for a weekend, and when I came back, my account at PFN had been locked. I sent otm several e-mails and he never responded. That is why I can't stand OTM.

Sounds like you have a personal issue with Mark, GB.....

I'll only say this.....mark may have his "issues", but he 100% true Pirate....and I'll defend him to the end over a person who has no regard or respect for East Carolina or her people.....thus the things the are said on this board.....

Only if I can put a Carolina flag on the left hand and a Pirate flag on the right.

Then again, given that I have a fear of heights, my best bet is to take a Cubbies' cheesesteak sammich, place it in front of the Pirate statue and.. er.. um...

Damn, ain't willing to do it. Send me to Rio.

Actually, there is a vocal minority of GT fans wanting to return to the SEC, due to the ACC's .... hmm.... "less than generous actions" toward GT. If you know why GT left the SEC, you'll know that opinion is about as popular as ECU to I-AA. That being said, we don't berate those who think that, be we do debate them.

And FWIW, ECU isn't a good fit in the ACC and never was. A big motivator for expansion was breaking the dominance of the T.R. mafia. Letting ECU in creates that problem all over again. Also, I'm not sure off the top of my head, but isn't ECU a Teir 3 according to USN&WR? If so, that's not high enough. The ACC has a ridiculously high academic standard. People often assume the ACC wants to be like the SEC. That's wrong. The ACC wants to be the Pac-10 on steroids (strong athletics at all levels AND academics).

I also don't think ECU to I-AA is a good move.... but I do recognize that ECU is out in the middle of nowhere in terms of conference allies. There is no true good fit for them in any I-A conference other than the ACC. The Big East would be "good enough" ... but if your closest rival is in Morgantown ...... it's hard to to generate interest every week. After the allure of a BCS conference wore off... tell me how excited you'd be to play UCONN .... or Rutgers .... or Syracuse .... or USF....

The Carolina flag would illustrate the fight Jesus has between goodness and evil. Carolina of course being Satan 05-stirthepot

Maybe this offseason we can get you OTM, Cap, GB, SJ, Boneyard Posters, CUSABBS posters, Pirate Illustrated posters, Steve Logan, Mike Hamrick, Troy and Pirate Radio, Henry and his radio station,
Rent out Ficklen for the day, have the largest Pig Pickin in the history of ECU with everybody breaking bread, drinking beer, eating pig and forgiving all transgressions of the past???
I might even invite Coach Art Baker and ask him forgiveness for using my first four letter word in Ficklen when I directed it towards him and his coaching technique.
It could be a day of Pirate Forgiveness and celebrating our first CUSA Championship.

ECU has a large alumni base in NY/NJ/VA/MD area so the Syracuse game has always been one of interest and Rutgers would be now with all our NJ alumni. Throw in our long standing relationship with WVU and you get what would be a lot more interest by our fans then we currently have with CUSA teams.
Basketball would get an instant shot in the arm even with the BigEast split The 8 remaining teams represent an attractive BB Conference.
ACC has always been a pipe dream and after their deal with the devil to get Miami, BC and VT it will never happen.
At the end of the day the only thing ECU can control is getting good enough where we are an attractive candidate. Boise St is showing once again you can win even with a weak schedule and get national recognition. As said before if we make a run and go undefeated in the next ten years we will get much more recognition then a Boise St. with our OOC schedule.

You mean to tell me you'd be pumped to see woeful Syracuse in Greenville..... or worse yet god awful Rutgers (you know Schiano is gone very soon... and Rutgers is much worse than even Duke all-time)?

At this point it boils down to BCS $$$.

My preferred list of conferences if all other things were equal..

ACC
SEC
CUSA
Big East

We'd currently have to rule out the ACC due to the academics that you listed earlier, and I believe that boils down to # of degrees offerered (is that right).

I forget the exact formula, but it does favor by a fair amount private schools. It's not all about the degrees offered, but endowments, scholarships, fellowships, etc etc. It favors quality over quantity.

It would generate more interest/excitement than seeing woeful SMU, Rice, UCF, etc (in their bad years). At least the Big East schools get some recognition (and casual fans know who they are) because they're in a BCS league.

And that's the kicker. If the league is down, we benefit. If we win the C-USA Championship, it's great, and we are rewarded with the Liberty Bowl vs. a mid-level SEC team who doesn't really want to be there. If we win the Big East, we're in a BCS bowl. Being in a BCS league is also about the $$.

Would much rather play Syracuse especially after football season when their basketball team would roll into Greenville.
Playing UL and WVU every year would be awesome. We have a long series with UC which we have dominated and again I would look forward to the UC basketball team coming to town and even look forward to going to Cincinnati in the Spring to play baseball in their new stadium.
Rutgers coach is going to get snatched up but with the BigEast being BCS another coach might look at the Rutgers job as being a pretty attractive one. Pitt is a great program. Bottom line is the BigEast would generate much more interest then most CUSA teams.
The Texas feel of the Conference is tough for us. I would rather see ECU,USM,Memphis, Tulane, UCF, UAB, and Marshall break off and pick up a couple more teams from the MAC and SunBelt to form a new Conference.
Who knows what will happen. We are in CUSA and I like it but want what is best for ECU. If that is staying in CUSA then I am fine with that. I like a lot of the teams and the Conference has great potential. The main drawback is traveling distance and no BCS.

RE:
(11-13-2006 10:38 AM)ecuacc4ever Wrote:  Let's recap for the newbies:

- BigDaddyPirate makes a name for himself on BoneyardBanter.

- BigDaddyPirate decides to create a new board because so us "anti-Logan" types can express ourselves independent of Kapeetal Pir8, who was busy calling all "anti-Logan" types "Selfish Pieces of Dung".

- Skull-n-Bones was born -- the originator of the moniker "PirateNation" -- and KapeetalPir8 was on the original "blacklist"

- Then, BigDaddyPirate panicked, and put OTM on the blacklist, and partnered with Kapeetal for awhile, allowing Kapeetal to post articles to cheer up the fan base and promote Steve Logan.

- Then, BigDaddyPirate decided that OTM wasn't as bad as he seemed, and removed him from the "blacklist"

- Skull-n-Bones flourished as much as it could for a non-BB board. 02-13-banana

- Kapeetal Pir8 was "blacklisted" a second time.

- BigDaddyPirate discovered that he actually LIKED Carolina, and OTM freaked out.

- BigDaddyPirate posted comments on SNB that South Florida and/or Central Florida would receive Big East invites before ECU did. ScourgeAndHis7Seas didn't like that. OTM didn't like that. Called me to beotch about it.

- BigDaddyPirate posted a few comments on the "TarPit" board to the effect of "ECU was not/is not an ACC-worthy school". OTM, and the majority of the SNB crowd freaked out over that.

- BigDaddyPirate dies.

- MongoSlade lives.

- As a parting shot, totally out of spite, MongoSlade posted some comments on the former Wake County Pirate Club website -- since he was hosting it and had access to it. These comments ruffled a few feathers, to say the least. Mongo regrets doing that. That was low.

- Mongo makes comments to the effect that ECU is best served as a I-AA outfit.

---

That about sums it up.

Mongo currently serves as the C-USA's "resident TarHole", pulling for the Tar Heels, but respecting the Pirate Nation enough to discontinue the "I-AA" remarks. Hasn't been to an East Carolina game since the 2002 TCU game.

You should update this with your new handle and all.

I go dig up one old thread and you guys dig up the best of the old threads. I never knew the whole story of mongo/ecuholefan4ever. Haven't been posting long enough on any of the message boards. Glad to see I am not the only one with issue with OTM either.
