Week 3 Memphis
I am gonna go with the trend and say Memphis 31-26 two 5 point games in a row...

The Pirates MUST go all out passing

We need to get all our receivers in tow.... AA, DD, PD, BG, all of them.... everyone is looking good so far.... Use the pass to set up what little run game we have and hope we can get some runs.

Last year our first touchdown was a bomb to AA in the Duke game. Some how this year we are throwing a lot of short passes and hoping for YAC.
I say air it out against Memphis on some first down situations. Spread the field and in turn help the running game.
Davon Drew came up big and it would be totally refreshing to have a Tight End option on 3rd down or to go across the middle of the field.
Week three Skip and company need to open up that play book. We can and will beat Memphis. No reason we can't go 4-1 during our Homestand.

I dunno what's gonna happen at the Memphis game, but I do know this - this weekend will define this season and this team. After the way we lost to UAB, how the guys respond will be telling. Last year, when we were out of bowl contention and played two teams fighting for their bowl lives, we beat their heads in. If we pull out a W, I think we still have a shot to go bowling. If not, it's gonna be a looooooonnnnngggg year.

My preseason pick for this game was Memphis 31, ECU 24 (if we lost the Navy game). Gonna stick with that and hope like hell I'm wrong.

Also, I hope we either win big or lose big. My heart can't take many more of these last minute games.

I'm a big fan of that idea too, but with the play of our OL, we might oughta bring a bodybag for JP.

Going into the season I thought after the first four games I would be very happy with 2-2. Now I would be thrilled with 1-3. Hate to use the must win logic but we need to beat Memphis and go 4-1 or 3-2 on our five game home stand to have a hope at a Bowl Game and a winning season.
We had every shot in the world at beating Memphis last year and they were better then they are now. No reason we can not go out and beat Memphis at home.
I take some solace in the fact we have not put together a complete effort yet. Maybe Saturday will be that game.

After 2 games? This isn't John Thompson's Pirates -- we've lost 2 games by a combined 10 points, meaning we have had a shot to win both. There's still plenty of time for this season to get righted, and it should help that we have a long homestand.

05-stirthepot your only chance is to put together some sort of run game. if you pass and pass out of your set your qb won't be able to hit anyone from his backside. it looks like the pirates are still a year or two away from being back. that makes me feel better about this week, but not over confident. skip and his staff are a very good crew and they have a lot of pride and many years of coaching between them. your team will be ready to play, and at your house that gives them the advantage. just hope my tigers come in and take the win away from them. we still owe you a few. 04-bolt

now why would a blazer pick the pirates to beat the tigers?
oh, i get it. he is totally unbiased and has no dog in this fight.

baloney! they beat the pirates and want the pirates to win as many games as possible now especially against conference and division foes. makes them look good and gives them a better shot at the title. 05-nono

Please come ready to pass on the Tigers, that's not our defense's weakness.

True but I still think they can upset the Tigers weather it helps us or not. I generaly pull for Memphis and have actually gone to some Tiger games when they are not playing the Blazers. Pinkney is the real deal folks. he took some shots that Wimprine never got up from..... lmfao

we should continue this on the blazer board. i am beginning to think the pirates should just give up and die. they have no pride when they allow folks from other boards to take over and dominate the chatter.

I hate to say this but if y'all want to win, run the stinkin ball every play. We cannot seem to stop the run at all this year. That is the best way to beat us. Slowing down our offense??? I don't know what would be key for that. We have a ton of weapons on offense. But if you run and control the clock, y'all will be golden.

Should be a great game Saturday. I look for ECU to pull it out and push the series lead over Memphis to 9-6

Actually, it wouldn't be an upset -- early line is ECU -2
