RE: Vance blames Iran war for GOP’s midterm losses
Should've shown the evidence that Iran was weeks away from the bomb. Tulsi Gabbard being asked about the evidence and saying only Trump can make the determination on the evidence was not a good look. It quickly becomes a "just trust me bro" situation.

Even with that evidence you still have to explain why Trump said he knocked out Iran's capability to make nukes for years shortly before that. Then changed his mind and said they were weeks away from the bomb. What changed in the intelligence? If they were so sure they had knocked out the capability before then why should we then trust them to be right this time?

Then on top of that why not just do the same thing? Just send in bombs every so often just targeting the nuclear facilities? Lot less cost and doesn't close the straight and stops Iran from getting the nuke.

What not to do is declare that you won every week as if you didn't say the same thing last week. Don't say you knocked out 100% of their missiles only to have them clearly capable of launching attacks in the region hours later. Don't say you have a peace treaty with them when you don't. Don't say Iran will fall soon because of economic pressure over and over every week when they aren't.

But, most of all don't involve the US in the middle east. It never goes good for anyone.

Your post is spot-on but I think it's very possible he got played by the US deep state / permanent Washington and Mossad. They knew he'd be too stupid / egocentric to see past it. Wanted to look like a hero and it blew up in his face.

Israel doesn’t care how they impact our elections because they own both sides.

We jump when they say so.

We see what they allow us to see, and hear what they feel we need to hear.

If someone disagrees with their objectives, that person gets destroyed.

Wow, who needs football when we have so many arm chair quarterbacks here. Who cares how we lost the battle, we lost it because of this and that, there's no clear cut reason why we did. But, now Talafreako will have to prove that what he said in the end is not what he said in the beginning. To go the Scamburger route maybe but he for sure will have eyes on his doings. He's a liar and for sure he'll find another lie to fall to and stupid people who think this nutjob is a real Christian will still vote for him. If Talafreako is a Christian then Marx is too.

I'm tired of politics, I'm thinking of boycotting it...maybe, LOL.

Who is this "we" you speak of? As far as I can see, your mother Russia has nothing to do with this discussion other than the fact that Trump climbing in bed with Putin did Republicans no favors when it came to winning over a public that despises the blood thirsty egotistical Russian despot.

There is a limit to how far down our bombs can penetrate. The more we bomb them, the better idea they get of the limits of our bunker busters. Eventually, we need a nuclear bunker buster, and then we just nuked somebody. Easier to go in now, bite the bullet for the next 2 years, put a whole lot of boots on the ground and install a govt that's not openly hostile to the US and our interests.

Ofc, in 3 years every bad guy in the world will be able to get Claude to teach him how to build a backpack nuke in his garage with duct tape and rubber bands, so this argument might seem quaint.

Doesnt really matter. Talarico got in and will be free to show his true colors voting as a hard left progressive for the next 6 years. Nothing can be done about that. Texas Republicans who sat at home on election day will realize very quickly that sentencing Texans to Talarico for the next 6 years was about the dumbest thing they have ever done. The good news is---other than the Senate seat---the Democrat sweep of Texas statewide offices can and will be undone just 2 short years from now. Given the Texas Legislature only meets once every 2 years---the amount of damage they can do is fairly limited. 04-cheers

It costs a lot of money and power to dig deeper. And time. Regardless just bomb and cave in the entrance every so often if the actual facility is too hard to get to.

Then how do does that explain Greg Abbott in Texas? That was a good candidate that has run the state well---who nobody thought was in trouble. This was a perfect storm election. There were multiple factors that all combined to create an overwhelming storm that the Republicans had little chance of overcoming without a near historic mid-term Republican turnout.

We had a mid-term election where the president's party almost always loses seats. Additionally, the party was led by a president who has fumbled the Iran War, driven up gas prices, cozied up to a VERY unpopular Russian dictator, enacted tarriffs that increased prices, needlessly treated allies worse than enemies (the result of which is a Trump job approval rating in the low 30's). We have an economy where most young adults---along with most of the lower and middle class are facing an increasingly difficult affordability crisis where their standard of living is perceptibly falling---not rising. Then---I would agree---in some cases---you can add in the fact that the Republicans had some less than stellar candidates in some assorted races.

Overall---like I said----It was a perfect storm of factors that conspired to deliver a historic reversal for the Republicans.

A wave like this means individual candidates were NOT the cause. It was systemic. Economy probably, with tariffs and inflation/diesel prices among them. Overzealous immigration enforcement may be next closest. DOGE and corporate tax cuts were big administration policies but because they aren’t rage-inducing (except for wonks) they likely didn’t contribute much to the wave.

Good analysis. I’ll add that the economy wasn’t appreciably different with Biden; it has just been “bad” for young adults and the lower/middle class since the pandemic. Trump just did a horrible job empathizing with those impacted.

I almost hope Trump works with the Democrats to finally fix the economy. Biden didn’t do it; Republicans didn’t the last 2 years. I’m not even sure HOW it can be fixed, but perhaps Trump+Democrats will produce a winning combo. He has some interesting ideas about state equity in AI.

Well, yeah, but that cause what happened last night all by itself. If the republicans had lost a few more seats, or been a couple % points lower than expected, that would have been a reasonable response. We're not seeing kids come home every day in body bags like in the Vietnam days, after all. Iran was just one pain point for Republicans this cycle, Trump was THE pain point.

It was the economy stupid. It was every day gas and food prices. Its not about actually being in the Persian Gulf. Its the higher gas prices and related inflation that are impacted by the war. That's a pain point every day for people.

What you said.

Most of yall on this forum said the war was a great idea and price increases were a necessary short term sacrifice

The "war" needed to be waged. No POTUS in 47 years had the balls to even try to stifle Iran's nuclear ambitions. If the "war" stops them from realizing those ambitions, then it's been well worth it. Your favorite odd couple, Lord Zero and Slow Joe, were giving them pallets of cash. I suppose that was ok, though, because it was your side that did it. I hope this country does go full-on communist just so I can gloat over the misery that will be inflicted on short-sighted people who only want free crap. You wannabe commies can go pee up a rope.

The morons in maga-world ran on the economy in 2024, won because of it, then they proceeded to make things exponentially worse than the Biden administration ever did.

Then they doubled down, twiddling their thumbs about ballrooms, DEI, and other nonsensical things that simply don't matter. Very "let them eat cake." The cowardice or unwillingness of repubs' ability to stand up to Trump in his dumbest moments was noted.

Make no mistake - this belt-to-ass moment isn't about Iran. It didn't help their case any, but they had dug their own hole WELL before then.

RE: Vance blames Iran war for GOP’s midterm losses

Vance in his own words:

"...Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.

There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true.

But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.

Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:

1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel..."

Maybe 4) is why the US dropped its 4 billion in aid. Its kind of a disturbing thing that many in both parties hate Israel.
2) and 3) are obvious. I think 1) is just that it interferes with 2) and 3). We aren't sending troops.

The Republican voters did NOT show up in Georgia. Georgia was one of those places with low turnout.

I am very intrigued by this. How is today's economy and gas prices worse than Biden's?

I wouldn't expect any worthwhile dialogue from that one.
