CUSA Bowl Watch 2026
With seven games in the books let’s take a look at what the bowl picture looks like for our merry band of misfits.

IN
Liberty (6-1)

ALMOST THERE
Jax State (5-2)-Just need one win in five games.

LOOKING GOOD
MTSU (4-3)-Need two wins. Schedule is in their favor as they have both SHSU and KSU (both 1-6) left and already played Jax State. The Fire Mason Club is not happy.

NEEDS WORK
Here’s where it gets crowded. Everyone here is 3-4

Delaware-Play all three of the others in the group plus Jax State and Kennesaw.

FIU-Favorable schedule with both 1-6 teams along with MoState (2-5). Also get Delaware and Liberty.

NMSU-Schedule is rough with both Jax State and Liberty, although both at home. Also plays MoState, Delaware, and MTSU.

WKU-Another tough schedule, playing all three of the teams with winning records along with Delaware and Kennesaw.

IN TROUBLE
MoState (2-5)-Close the season with the top two teams along with NMSU and FIU. Only bright spot is Kennesaw.

NEED A MIRACLE
Kennesaw and Sam Houston are both 1-6 and they play each other so at most one can make it. Both have already played Liberty and Jax State, so it’s not impossible.

Jax State seems to be a lock and I would say MTSU is about a 80% chance of getting there. Hard to guess how many of the others get in. If half of the 3-4 teams make it and we have five total I think that would be good, might be the best we can hope for.

I'm OK with not firing Mason, as long as we don't give a raise and extension. He is already the second-highest paid coach in the league, I think.

But Mason needs 6 wins to keep his job, if I were making the decison.

In all likelihood, he wasn't getting fired no matter what his record is/was.

Based on how we have both been playing you guys should (finally) beat us this year. Better lock him down long term and build the statue.

He already places himself on a pedestal, so there's a start

Pretty soon, there'll be a new sheriff in town, and hopefully some accountability for the large salaries and longevity whilst losing.

Softball -- Jeff Breeden -- 14 years -- 318-408 overall
Soccer -- Aston Rhoden -- 25 years -- no conference titles since 2012 (Sun Belt) and just 3 total overall including conference tourney championships (all in Belt)
Women's Tennis -- Tayo Bailey-Duvall-- 8 years -- 96-110 overall with some of the nicest tennis facilities around

Thank God for women's hoops and men's tennis.

MTSU should get there, and I like FIU's chances.

Delaware probably has the best opportunity to wreck it for the others.

RE: CUSA Bowl Watch 2026
The “Fire Mason Club” is more than likely not wanting it to happen this year anyway. We have a new president coming at the end of 2026 and many MT fans are wanting that person to make the moves not our current leadership. I’m hoping for someone younger in both the president role and the AD role. The university has allowed too many coaches to earn a lot of money with minimal expectations. That needs to change.

And the "Fire Mason Club" would also like to see Mason win some games.

I do not think he is the right coach to lead us forward, however, even with a few wins here and there. I'd be thrilled to be wrong.

Also worried that if he wins 6 games, we'll add more years and pay him even more money. That's how we roll at MT.

I’m guessing large amounts of alcohol are consumed at the club meetings.

RE: CUSA Bowl Watch 2026
This week’s bowl outlook preview

Delaware at WKU
Both are 3-4 so neither can afford a loss. Even more crucial for WKU, with both JSU and Liberty left.

Sam Houston at MoState
SHSU is out with a loss and State is trying to hold on.

Jax State at NMSU
Jax State clinches a spot with a win. NMSU has Liberty next week so they might need to pull an upset somewhere.

Kennesaw at MTSU
Kennesaw is out with a loss while MTSU looks to solidify their chances.

FIU at Liberty
Liberty is already in while FIU hopes to find a treat on Halloween.

RE: CUSA Bowl Watch 2026
Update after Week 9:

IN
Liberty (7-1)
Jax State (6-2)

LOOKING GOOD
These teams are 4-4 and just need to go .500 down the stretch.

Delaware-In good shape, have trips to Kennesaw and NMSU with FIU in between before ending with Jax State at home.

MTSU-Took a step back in a loss to Kennesaw. Get WKU at home before traveling to Liberty. Then get Sam at home before ending the season at NMSU, which may make or break them if they don’t win the 62 kilometers of hate.

IN TROUBLE
These teams are 3-5

FIU-Has the best chance of this group with the two leaders already in the rear view mirror.

NMSU-Only play Liberty of the leaders but Delaware could end their bowl dreams after that.

MoState-Go to FIU and host NMSU but finish with the two league leaders and will have to pull an upset somewhere.

WKU-Slightly worse off as they also play both leaders and travel to their arch rival.

NEED A MIRACLE
Kennesaw (2-6)-Not as desperate as the record indicates. If they can get by Delaware at home next week the schedule is favorable down the stretch.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR
Sam Houston (1-7)

RE: CUSA Bowl Watch 2026
Not a good week for CUSA’s bowl outlook. Sammy was eliminated, MTSU took a step back and of the four who were 3-4, the only one who won was Delaware, who was playing one of the other 3-4 teams.

Here’s a look at next week’s games and their bowl implications.

Delaware at Kennesaw State-It’s a literal must win for Kennesaw. Delaware needs to stay hot.

WKU at MTSU-With the top two still on the schedule, WKU can’t afford a loss here. MTSU could absorb a mulligan here, with SHSU and NMSU still to play.

MoState at FIU-State has the the top two still left so this is a must win if they want any chance at a bowl. FIU’s toughest remaining test is Delaware but they still can’t afford to take a sixth loss here.

Sam Houston at Jax State-Sam is playing for pride while the Gamecocks are trying to keep pace with Liberty.

I think Delaware is in good shape to make it to a bowl with MTSU a step behind. I hope we can get five in but I’m not optimistic.
