WSJ - explains the $126 Billion Debacle to Build CA's Bullet Train
https://www.wsj.com/us-news/inside-the-1..._lead_pos7

No operational tracks or finished sections of the California High-Speed Rail system are complete or open to passengers despite billions and billions of dollars spent. The project was approved in 2008. It was scheduled for completion around 202 at an estimated cost of $33 billion.

The incompetent Dems, when in charge, have trouble building anything major on time and on budget.

If the contractors are smart, and I have no doubt they are, they will follow the military model.

https://responsiblestatecraft.org/f35-gao/

Because all of the money is borrowed, hence, “unlimited,” government has no incentive to make sure it’s spent wisely.

The military is our countries number one expense, and look at the precedent it sets. Nearly all other spending is equally hare-brained. Doesn’t matter what department.

We have a freakin $1.7 trillion dollar F35 program that wastes hundreds of billions more every single year and isn’t delivering most of what it promised tax payers.

We are the problem. Americans are terrible spenders, we can’t plan things out well, we are overly optimistic, we take bribes, have accepted all sorts of corruption as normal, and are so dependent on being bailed out by continuing to borrow more money to fix things, that we are incapable of doing things right the first time.

Everything we touch turns into a fiasco requiring more and more and more zeros. Our billion dollar plans turn into $50 billion disasters, adding $50 billion more for interest, and then scrap the whole thing before it is even finished.

We are like a lottery winner throwing money out of a car window. We didn’t work for the money so we don’t value it.

Our debt will be the end of us and our descendants are going live lives of misery and suffering because we are so stupid and lazy right now.

The Pentagon is missing almost a trillion dollars and no one bats an eye anymore. But the chance to point out waste when it can be tied to one party prompts all sorts of outrage.

Milton Friedman understood the principle of “spending other people’s money”. He first explained it in his book “Free to Choose” in 1980.

No one is surprised. No one is outraged.

It’s $120 billion and no one cares at all.

The only issue is who spent it and how people can spin the story to their advantage.

They want to have the advantage so they can get into power and run projects exactly like this and share the windfall with their supporters.

Thats why we are $40 trillion in debt and have nothing to show for it.
