Sec. Wright says Trump Admin has not broken promise to lower gas prices amid Iran War
Quote:Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Sunday said the Trump administration has not broken its promise to lower gas prices as the Iran war stretches into its eighth month.

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Wright on “State of the Union” about his predictions early in the conflict that gas prices would decline “within weeks, not months,” and, with prices still high, asked if the administration has let Americans down.

“No, we haven’t,” Wright said. “And, Dana, I think you should be –– yes, I think you’re well aware of that. The Iranian government killed 30,000 to 40,000 of their own citizens in January of this year before the conflict. Are you comfortable with a nuclear-armed Iranian regime that’s in power right now? I don’t think anyone is comfortable with that.”

“And when we discussed in March, I said the conflict part, the active war that we were –– the active attacks we were making would be over in four or five or six weeks, and they were,” Wright said. “Gasoline prices did come down. They never got remotely close to $5 a gallon, over $5 a gallon.”

Bash pressed the secretary on whether he is comfortable with where gas prices are, prompting him to reply, “No, of course I’m not comfortable but I’m happy they’re coming down.”

“They have gone down the last few weeks, as have diesel prices, and they will continue to come down. That’s what President Trump works on every day,” he added.

The average cost of gas in the U.S. is $4.29 on Sunday, according to AAA. Last year, the average was $3.04.

I like Secretary Wright. He's my favorite of the President's appointments, and I'd vote for him for President. But this has got to be a challenging task going on morning shows right now with affordability questions three weeks out from a very contested midterm election.

For what it's worth, according to AAA's site, the National Average for Regular is down about 6 cents/gallon from a week ago, and 18 cents/gallon down from a month ago. Diesel up about a nickel per gallon from a week ago and down 17 cents/gallon from this time last month.

Chris Wright was a well respected O&G expert. He's sullied his reputation greatly in this role. Sad.

You have that backwards. It's gone up 5.22 cents in the last week.

Or maybe, just maybe, he knows what he's talking about. But no, you choose to listen to some guy on social media instead. Also, you yourself said many times during the Biden administration that the president doesn't dictate energy policy, but now you're saying that Trump does since he's in office again. So you don't even believe your own statement from the Biden years. Finally, I suspect the left has told the gas giants to keep prices where they are despite the fact it had dipped somewhat before this past week. And don't get me started on the gas taxes heavily implemented in places like California and New York.

Trump is on social media more than Mr. Global 05-stirthepot. Interesting how you just complain about him being on aocial media and not the content of his posts.

Taxes do not change the prices of gas day to day but war in Iran does.

You know what else does? Halting five pipelines either being built or were producing at the time. Biden did that on day one of his presidency. (And yes, gas taxes do have an effect on gas prices, depending on the state, whether you like it or not.)

Now that’s a hell of a take.

I agree that states like CA, NY and WA have mostly their own local and state elected officials to blame for their gas and diesel prices being significantly higher than the national average.

Thanks. Honestly, I'm not the first one to say it. Maybe on here, but I've heard it said several times on TV and radio, and seen it on social media, too. And something tells me you have as well. Now do I really believe it? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being true. (And I should've added until the midterms are over.)

Stick around, man. You're a breath of fresh air. 04-cheers (The last two Cajuns -- that is, Ragin' Cajuns -- who posted on here were ardent leftists, one of which justified the assassination of Charlie Kirk.)

Well…he also has to walk and talk the company line. Same with any employee of a company making a public appearance and statement on behalf of a company. I’m sure Sec Wright doesn’t completely agree with everything the Trump Administration has done, and I’m sure his CEO’s old man tweeter ramblings don’t help with his PR appearances, but at the end of the day, Sec Wright has been great to have as Sec of Energy, especially considering the unqualified ignoramus we had in that spot during the Biden Administration.

Yuck. I bet I know who one of those is.

Assassinating (Murdering) an innocent human being because you just don’t like what they say in non-violent discourse is wrong, and so is trying to justify or laugh about it. Whether it’s Charlie Kirk (RIP) or someone like Rachel Maddow.

lol, ok, whatever. In one sentence you said the dude was well respected O&G expert and the next that's no longer true. The ONLY thing that changed is what he said you don't agree with for political reasons. Carry on.

You probably do. And I completely agree with you. Now I don't know if you're a Christian, but I don't wish death on anybody because of my faith. I'd never wish death on an enemy, especially political; only for enough strength to vanquish him if it be God's will.

Yeah...no. He's sold his soul to the company trump. He has to know what trump is spewing is complete horseshit for the most part...but he plays the good boy...and nods along. He's just like Rubio. Mostly good guys selling their souls to trump. It's pitiful.

My disagreements with trump on O&G are because he's incompetent and a complete ignoramus on the topic. Mostly the same as my disagreements with Biden on O&G. Neither has a ******* clue what they're talking about. That has nothing to do with politics. 07-coffee3

Highest average price per gallon of gas under Biden (inflation adjusted up to Jan 2025): $5.53

Average price per gallon now: about $4.30
