CUSA - side trip sightseeing stops when visiting CUSA schools
I got this idea from another thread... Please submit other ideas
Here are just a few side trip ideas if you visit Delaware for a football, basketball or other sport
- Day trip to NYC, Philly, Baltimore or DC. The Newark Amtrak station is diagonally across the street from the football stadium (though limited trains stop at Newark). The Wilmington, DE Amtrak station (all trains stop there) is a short drive away.
- day trip to Pennsylvania ski resorts via car
- day trip to Delaware beaches or Jersey Shore (Delaware beaches are far better), great idea for Sept football games.
- Hershey, PA (home of Hershey's Chocolate, Hersheypark and several other Hershey related attractions) is only 70 miles away
- For the wives and daughters: The King of Prussia Mall (the largest mall in American in regards to dedicated retail square footage) is only 49 miles from Delaware's football stadium.
- Also for the wives, Day trips to cute Chesapeake Bay towns in Maryland like Annapolis, St. Michael's, etc.
- NASCAR at Dover International Speedway (used to be called Dover Downs) - however, the race is currently in May only, the fall race was moved to Nashville. So only a baseball option right now, unless race is ever moved back to fall.

LOL - my brother-in-law is actually a professional fisherman who spends most of his time crabbing.
While Delaware isn't as big of a crab state as Maryland (because the Delaware govt actually makes it very difficult to be a professional fisherman & crabber), there are several great crab places in Delaware; esp at the beaches, and Delaware City (which is not far from UD).
Also Chesapeake City, MD & North East, MD are very close to UD too, and there are many good crab places there. The town of North East, MD is actually where the University of Delaware Sailing Team has their home base.
So yeah, Delaware loves crabs just like Maryland, but in Delaware they are not as fanatical about them like Maryland :)

I'm assuming it's still there but if anyone's going to a game in Bowling Green, Kentucky and wants some good BBQ, go to Smokey Pig.

New Lodge has open at Cheaha State Park. Roughly 45 minutes from campus.

Been there. That was a great place even before the remodel--probably better now.

As Sigke said
If you’re going to be in Delaware for a few days and you’re thinking about going to one of the beach towns, Go to Rehoboth Beach. Right on the Atlantic with old style boardwalk

RE: CUSA - side trip sightseeing stops when visiting CUSA schools
I think I made this post about two years ago and had it catalogued for every team in CUSA to include good places to stay and eat. But I could be wrong. My memory's not as good as it once was. Probably buried several pages deep in past threads.
I live in Shepherdsville, KY, about 1.5 hr. from Bowling Green. I travel there often, as my son's band is headquartered there, and it's a direct stop on the way to Nashville when I go there for events.
Day Trips from Bowling Green:
- Corvette Museum/NCM Motorsports Park
- Mammoth Cave
- Aviation Heritage Park
- Beech Bend Amusement Park/Splash Lagoon/Raceway
- Lost River Cave
- Historic RailPark & Train Museum
- Crystal Onyx Cave
- Kentucky Down Under
- Dinosaur World
- The Grove (Glasgow)
- A little bit of a drive puts you onto the Bourbon Trail (worth it)
- Drive an hour up to Elizabethtown and eat the best pizza in the world at The Original Impellizerri's, plus an order of their "to die for" breadsticks
- Green River, Big Buffalo Crossing, Drakes Canoe and Kayaking
- Barren River Lake

What all is there to do in and around Huntsville, TX ?
I guess very close to Houston, but any neat stuff besides the big city ?
I've been to Las Cruces a couple of times -- very nice trip !

RE: CUSA - side trip sightseeing stops when visiting CUSA schools
I may be a Liberty poster, but I live near Sammy. In fact many of their athletic administrators live in my neighborhood. I admit that it is not as cool as Las Cruces with White Sands and Hatch nearby.
Huntsville itself is a unique place though. The stadium sit across a parking lot from where the vast majority of executions occur in the United States every year. In fact, I highly recommend if you visit town, go check out the Prison Museum on the northside of town along I-45. It has Ole Sparky.
Right next to campus is Sam's house which is actually a pretty cool place for a Tennessean to check out.
Otherwise Huntsville sits about about 20 minutes north of the northern suburbs. Their medical school is down in Conroe where most of the chartered flights arrive for the teams. If you are flying in yourself, Huntsville is about an hour north of IAH and about and hour and a half or so north of Hobby. It is about 2-3 hours south of the Dallas Love or DFW.
The Willis-to-Spring corridor down I-45 is your typical suburban experience for visitors. The more interesting tourist activities are all down south. At least that is my take as a longtime Houstonian who used to spend my summers at my grandparents' house in Murfreesboro.
