WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE US

GREED WILL ALWAYS RULE THE DAY IN AMERICAN POLITICS

Owl used to give his argument for a consumption tax but too many hands are in the cookie jar at this point. My daughter is an accountant and she put a spreadsheet together of how much an average American actually pays in taxes and its disturbing to say the least

Quote:Congratulations to Robert Hall! In addition to brilliant study of booms-and-busts, he is also the author (with Alvin Rabushka) of the Hall-Rabushka Flat Tax, still the most detailed and thoughtful idea for a one-rate income tax with no carveouts and postcard-easy compliance.

I'd think I'd rather see some version of The Fair Tax. If a flat tax were instituted without strict guardrails, we'd be back to paying rates from the pre-Reagan years.

Agreed. I need to find the Fair Tax Book and reread it sometime. It's here in the house somewhere.
