Well, IMO, mental disorders should not be a defense in any case. As a matter of fact, if you are mentally incapable of knowing the difference between right and wrong and do wrong you are much more dangerous to society because you lack rehabilitative qualities.

Stopping institutionalization of crazies was a huge mistake.

I'm not sure I fully agree with you but I do strongly feel your general point is valid.

Using mental illness as a defense for a crime is generally rather lame. There are lots of mentally ill people who are not violent, don't commit crimes, etc.

He was raised to be a violent, hateful person. That isn't mental illness. That is culture.

Do we know that with certainty? Maybe there is a report that validates your point. I don't know. Maybe his parents (or mother if he is from a single-parent home) tried their best but he was simply "born evil." I'm not going to argue he was raised to be violent without knowing some details. But maybe you're correct.

Seems to me his is both filled with hate/rage and suffers mental illness. And that is a potentially deadly one-two punch.
