The death threats against Kylie’s family, and her parents, Lance Younge and Jenny Geary, have surfaced both online and locally, leading the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to investigate.
“The RCMP is aware of threats that have circulated online and within the community and we can confirm that an investigation is under way. A safety plan is in place for the individual(s) and community as the investigation continues,” the RCMP said in a statement.
In a heart-wrenching statement shared via the Tumbler Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Kylie’s father said:
“We are SO SORRY we had to cancel Kylie’s service today. We saw how hard everyone was working on it… From what we are hearing, we are at least the third family of the deceased to be harassed or threatened by people from their past since this awful tragedy took place.”
“We saw how beautiful the space was looking. So many people were working tirelessly to make the most lovely service for our girl. The caterers, the businesses that were closing out of respect, the people who took time off work, we are so sorry. We couldn’t risk any more violence in this amazing town.”
The statement concluded, “Mostly, we are sorry to you Kylie. Our girl. This was supposed to be your day. I promise we will give you the most lovely, beautiful event when the time is right. We love you so much and will do right by you. I promise.”
The RCMP has implemented a safety plan, relocating the family to a secure location, and confirmed that multiple families are facing similar harassment.
Quote:OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has apologized to the people of Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, Canada, after it was revealed that a trans mass shooter used ChatGPT to ask questions about carrying out mass shootings. ChatGPT did not report the conversations to police or that the account was banned.
"I am deeply sorry that we did not alert law enforcement to the account that was banned in June," Altman said. "While I know words can never be enough, I believe an apology is necessary to recognize the harm and (irreversible) loss your community has suffered."
"I want to express my deepest consolences to the entire community," said Altman, per Tumbler Ridge Lines. "No one should ever have to endure a tragedy like this. I cannot imagine anything worse in the world than losing a child."
The family of Maya Gebala, who was injured in the attack while trying to protect other students, announced that they are suing the AI company for not reporting the account to the authorities back when they discovered the violent chat history. Other students were killed.
Jesse Van Rootselaar killed his mother and half-brother at the family's home on February 10 before moving on to the local high school and opening fire there. OpenAI later told the RCMP that VanRootselaar's ChatGPT account was banned due to "violent" activity.
Altman said he "reaffirm[s] the commitment [he] made to the Mayor and the Premiere to find ways to prevent tragedies like this in the future. Going forward, out focus will continue to be on working with all levels of government to help ensure something like this never happens again."
ChatGPT is also facing a law suit in Florida after it was revealed that a man who opened fire at Florida State University discussed his plans withe ChatGPT. "We have been advised that the shooter was in constant communication with ChatGPT leading up to the shooting," said attorneys Ryan Hobbs and Dean LeBoeuf representing the family of the murdered in that case. Over 270 AI photos and ChatGPT conversations are listed as exhibits in the case.
"We also have reason to believe that ChatGPT may have advised the shooter how to commit these heinous crimes. We will therefore file suit against ChatGPT, and its ownership structure, very soon, and will seek to hold them accountable for the untimely and senseless death of our client, Mr. Morales."

I’m left-center, but I’m basically a fascist compared to most of that group. Unbelievable.
Yeah, you're definitely one of the more sensible liberals on here. Heck, you might even be a libertarian. (In ideology, not political party, of course.)
I may have addressed this thread already but maybe not this specific post. When will you and others learn that no matter how rational the left comes across, they ALWAYS reveal their true natures eventually? I've called out every one of the more "rational" leftists here and have been vindicated every single time.
You cannot accept these people as serious individuals. This one is no different.

"We" didn't. Do you have a mouse in your pocket? But just as a thought experiment, I would ban the use of SSRIs and other psychotropic drugs for juveniles under the age of 18. Kids mature much slower than they did when I was a kid, and even I was a dumb*** until I became a father and responsibility forced me to become a grown-ass man. In young men their brains aren't even fully formed until the age of 22 or later, typically.
Bring back corporal punishment. It was a fine deterrent that worked well on me and my two kids. Timeouts don't have the same sting.
I will deny inclusion into your "we" characterization until the day I die but I know what you meant.

BS, there goes Thomas the Lying Lardass Loon again, speaking of things about which he has no clue while pronouncing himself an authority on the subject. Is there anything he doesn't know about??

Their families knew exactly who they were and they looked the other way. I'm sure there is a long list of school counselors and healthcare professionals who also knew and did nothing.
This isn't a "we" issue.
It sure isn't but the OP likely meant we in the broader context of society writ large. Even so I take mild offense, considering the source, whom I respect, and agree with the pushback.

This is one of the sickest things I've heard surrounding any event of this nature.
Quote:A Washington state trans-identified male has been arrested for allegedly aiding notorious trans killer, Jesse Van Rootselaar, in carrying out the heinous mass shooting attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in Canada. James "Mel" Cody Bryant, 30, of Bellingham, was arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country, according to an FBI affidavit.
Bryant has been accused of communicating with Rootselaar about the February 2026 attack on Discord. This included allegedly giving the killer tactical advice as to how to carry out the murders, including which firearms to use. Bryant also agreed to record Van Rootselaar’s livestream so the executions could be shared on the internet for public view, according to the affidavit.
Additionally, investigators said that Bryant sent Van Rootselaar $100 for shoes and $15 for a lighter, which was used to construct an explosive device that was used during the attack.
On February 10, 2026, Rootselaar, 18, shot and killed eight individuals, including six children, and wounded 25 others at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada. He first killed his mother and stepbrother at his family home before traveling to kill more.
According to the affidavit, Bryant assisted Van Rootselaar travel to the school to conduct mass carnage by providing instructions on how to start Van Rootselaar's vehicle after it failed to start.
The killer committed suicide via self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police shootout inside the school.
The pair spoke daily on the internet beginning in August 2025, about six months prior to the shooting. According to the affidavit, Van Rootselaar repeatedly discussed plans to use guns to murder his family due to claims of "mistreatment."
Van Rootselaar told Bryant that he stole firearms and ammunition from his family's gun safe and was hiding them in his room for the mass shooting. The killer also told Bryant that he allegedly convinced another individual to purchase ammunition on his behalf. Additionally, Van Rootselaar told Bryant about the types of guns and accessories he possessed, some of which Bryant said were used in the mass shooting, per the affidavit.
According to Bryant, as detailed in the affidavit, Van Rootselaar was infatuated with mass shootings and often watched live-streamed recordings of past shootings to learn from them. He wanted his attack to be live-streamed, and Bryant agreed to assist.
Bryant made these claims and admitted to providing assistance during an interview with FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents.
Bryant and Van Rootselaar spoke about selecting a target location for the mass shooting during the six months prior to the attack. The killer suggested the school because it would lead to the largest number of victims. Bryant allegedly said a school would be a bad idea because there would be too many young victims. Instead, Bryant suggested targeting a grocery store or church, according to the affidavit.
Bryant admitted to being in contact with Van Rootselaar on Discord prior to the shooting and confirmed that he knew of his plans to kill.
Van Rootselaar sent Bryant the livestream link and instructed him to record and broadcast it. Bryant did just that. The stream was cut by Twitch about 20 seconds in to the attack.
"The Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting was a horrific tragedy for that small community and for all of Canada. Indeed, here in the Pacific Northwest we felt the pain of those families devastated by this violence," said Acting US Attorney Neil Floyd in a press release. "It is even more profoundly disturbing to learn that a resident of Western Washington had a role in the attack and took steps – providing counsel, technical advice, and money to the shooter planning such a tragedy."
If convicted, Bryant faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

This is what I mean when I hear about Demonicratic voters who say that they don't condone some of the vile things the party does. They think that because they're not passing the immoral legislation that they aren't to blame, of trying to make boys into girls...for one. They are as guilty as the congresspeople because they placed those people in office with their votes. They're like the driver of the get away car in a bank robbery, just as guilty.
They're gonna have a lot of 'splaining to do with Jesus.

Of course, or you would not have started the thread. We all know that's way more important than dead kids.
Are you ignoring the clear pattern we see emerging? Are you really that willfully ignorant? Stop this crap from happening, and you don't have to worry so much about dead kids. Stop supporting the trans movement, and I'd wager that 90% of it goes away.

Well? Have you had a look? Obviously not. Oh, I like your new catchphrase that you keep repeating. It's good to see you pivot away from fallacies; now it's "talking points."

Gee, this was so difficult to find. This was a big story not long ago. It finally got so out of hand that Biden's WH was eventually forced to affirm that they did NOT support gender affirming care for minors, but they let it hang out there for a very long time.
Here ya go, with a quick search...
Quote:AI Overview:
Yes, Democratic politicians and the party platform have consistently made statements and taken legislative actions supporting access to gender-affirming care for minors. They generally frame this care as "lifesaving," "medically necessary," and a decision that should be left to parents and doctors, rather than politicians. HRC | Human Rights Campaign
Examples of support from Democrats include:
Congressional Defense: During a 2023 House Judiciary Committee meeting, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) described gender-affirming services for minors as "safe, lifesaving and mainstream," arguing against state-level bans.
Opposition to Bans: Over 200 House Democrats voted against a bill to criminalize gender-affirming care for minors, defending the right to such care.
Legal Challenges: More than 160 House and Senate Democrats urged the Supreme Court to strike down a Tennessee ban on gender-affirming care for youth in 2024, calling it discriminatory.
Biden Administration Position: The Biden administration has stated that "transgender children have the right to access gender-affirming health care" and has advocated for this care to be available to minors.
2024 Party Platform: The 2024 Democratic National Convention platform included support for "medically necessary gender-affirming care" and vowed to oppose state and federal bans. Congressional Equality Caucus | (.gov)
Contextual Nuances:
While the party generally supports gender-affirming care for minors (which often includes puberty blockers and hormone therapy), some in the Biden administration have expressed opposition to, or distance from, surgical interventions for minors. However, the primary legislative focus has been on defending access to the broader spectrum of care against Republican-led bans. HRC | Human Rights Campaign

I don't think it's all Dems but it's confused parenting and in my opinion misguided liberal thinking.
At 12 years old or younger.
This shooting is a very sad story that happens too often.
