Fair. I'm just saying Petro's not a leftist. Disillusioned with Paxton? Yes. But not a leftist.

James Talarico is embracing a nickname President Donald Trump (80) has used to mock him—and turning it into campaign merchandise.

New “I’m A Talafreako” shirts are now available through the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate’s online store. The tees, available in black and white, start at $36.

Trump has repeatedly referred to Talarico as “Talafreako,” adopting a nickname that had previously been used by Talarico’s Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Rather than distancing himself from the label, Talarico has leaned into it. He referenced the nickname during his recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel and is now giving supporters a way to wear it as campaign merchandise.

The shirts are among several items sold by Talarico’s campaign store, which also includes “Talarico for Texas” and “Texas Is Talarico Country” apparel.

Talarico is also selling a pen inscribed with the words “Not Ken Paxton’s Pen,” a reference to a 2012 incident in which Paxton was accused of taking a $1,000 Montblanc pen that had been left near a courthouse security checkpoint.

The incident was featured in a Talarico campaign ad, which included surveillance footage showing Paxton picking up the pen and walking away. The pen’s owner, attorney Joe Joplin, later recovered it after contacting courthouse security and police. Joplin, who did not press charges, appears in the ad endorsing Talarico for U.S. Senate.

Not wanting to sorely offend anyone, but if you were to post those two pictures statewide I guarantee Texans would vote overwhelmingly against Talarico. Those two pictures look like two soft men whose masculinity would have to be questioned.

All the yap in the world would not overcome a picture is worth a thousand words.

Nice move by the Talarico camp to embrace the Talafreako moniker.

More politicians (on both the left and right) should do this. The opposition resorts to name calling ... you seize it and have fun with it.

Agree. Jd Vance did a great job embracing the fat face memes the left threw at him.

It amazes me to no end that smart people do not understand that you are voting on a representative that will, in a democrats sense, vote a party line. Every single time. Don’t like the republican because he ain’t perfect? Great! Vote for the democrat and every single damn stupid idea they come up with for six years. Smart? No. Damned fools.

I still doubt
Talarico wins in the end, if he does Dems definitely win both chambers.

WSOEagle I like you cannot understand republicans voting far left because they are not perfectly happy with conservative running.

I just don’t see black and Hispanic males standing in line and pulling the lever for a male like Talarico. Which is why Paxton still squeezes this one out with a win.

Talarico needs HUGE minority turnout in his favor, but I don’t see the males getting out in the numbers he needs for an upset.

Good point about Vance. He did a strong job with laughing it off. Full credit given.

People use nasty names in hopes of "owning" or "getting in the head of" their foes. If the foes embrace the nastiness in a playful and positive way ... the name-callers have lost that type of ammunition.

Oh no!!!! Talarico is going to lose after all the propaganda I was fed about him winning. I know Git will be sad but if you really look at all the other Texas elections its Republicans and its not even close. Spill over will defeat Talarico not Paxton.

One other thing I will point out and I have never really been able to put a finger on it is that Paxton ALWAYS PREFORMS BETTER THAN EXPECTED IN ELECTIONS ALWAYS

Not sure if it uninformed voters or maybe he has done something that actually benefited a lot of folks either way PAXTON WINS

RE: Republicans for Talarico
From an interview with Ernie Zuniga, KSAT 12:

[James] Talarico said addressing the rising cost of living is among his top priorities. He supports suspending federal gasoline and diesel taxes and reversing tariffs he believes are driving up prices.

“People here in San Antonio are struggling with the high cost of living,” he said.

Education is another priority, particularly expanding access to quality early childhood programs.

[Image: james-talarico-primary-election-2026-tex...ms-002.jpg]

Talarico also believes Texas would benefit from greater political competition.

“My party talks about turning Texas blue. Republicans talk about keeping Texas red. I think the best color for Texas is purple,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation, pointing to legislation he helped pass while serving in the Texas House.

“I’m not interested in just serving Democrats. I’m interested in serving Democrats, independents, and Republicans,” Talarico said.

As the campaign winds down, Talarico is borrowing a familiar motto from “Friday Night Lights.”

“We’re running with clear eyes and full hearts,” he said.
