I don't know about that. They get a leftist media enema repeatedly every day. Why should they be full of anything?

I was talking about everybody, not one side or the other. We're all FOS, to some extent. Nobody knows everything, nobody has a lock on the right opinion, so all this is just loud clatter proving absolutely nothing. I simply enjoy the back and forth.
That's not how I see it. Right or wrong on either side the anti has been raised and the future is what is at stake. And it's happening in real time now. When caught between two extremes their gravity evaporates the middle ground. It will by it's nature involve us all. If nothing else should have made the extremes palpable to you the last 10 years should have. There was nothing normal or business as usual about them for D.C. or the nation. The divide is real and growing.

We have the advantage of being retired and nearer the end than even the middle. But both of us have too much to risk and it's in terms of our children's and grandchildren's and now greatgrandchildren's lives. We can't pretend it's going away like everyone just pretended that public education pushing the victim agenda of Maoism would be dispelled by college, or life. Those who believe the ends justify the means exist on both sides and they are going to have their day.

The challenge may appear to be that of the next generation, but what it really is, is the unsettled business of our generation. As long as we draw breath we have an obligation.

Now I was joking with the post, but I'm sure as hell not joking about this.

I agree with all that, but I was coming just from a participatory standpoint, how it goes down on this board, not the bigger issues and the higher calling to protect what is our heritage.
I get that. What this board illustrates to me daily is that there are some reasonable people on both sides of the political divide. There are even some who grasp that we are all being played against one another to keep our focus off of the corporations raking in the profits from their treaties and overseas trade and that they keep power by creating animus between Americans via politics. But the majority who like to bicker and count coup also illustrate the lack of seriousness of the situation we face. I'm just aware, a bit weary at my age, and the obligation is real. Obligations are not what you choose, but they are the things life compels you to acknowledge and deal with. Alabama can lull you to sleep as to the depth of animus. But there are radicals on both sides, equally paid and likely by the same pockets to drive this to a point of crisis so they can collapse what we have and take what they want and leave us a mess to rebuild. To my way of thinking we haven't had a president who was for America and its people since Reagan and Tip O'Neal met to work out differences so business could be done for the people. The politicians I see on both sides now a just looking to fill their coffers before the gravy train is over. I like our chances with our military and technology. I profoundly doubt any political will to do the right things and that goes for both sides. And letting in millions of potential insurgents like Schumer and Biden did is treason. I envy your journey. She it while it is still unified and has retained glimmers of greatness!

I think in all my years here I have reported one person, and it was for telling another poster to unalive themselves because they were a fagg0t. I'm amused by most of the monkeys here flinging poo, but that was a bridge too far.

Good stuff. And thanks for the kind thoughts. I know I have been fortunate to be able to be in this position, but it is also a helluva lot of hard work, especially doing it alone, and it makes me appreciate the circumstances even more.

Things that are difficult, and that you have to work especially hard for, often provide the best rewards. Which is something to be mindful of when addressing the issues you mention. Same principle.

That would be my recommendation as I think he could remain detached enough to do the job.

AM is as solid as they come ... he's one of my faves (even when we don't agree ... and we've had our battles)

this is why I LOVE smart folk and do everything possible to avoid your sig line 2 ... 03-wink

In the words of Eddie Murphy playing Buckwheat, "You be Oh-Tay!

I agree with Stink and you whole-heartedly. AM is as solid as you're going to get around here, TDS and all. 03-drunk J/K AM. 04-cheers

I am beyond flattered. I also am beyond unqualified.

And, as much as I may pretend otherwise, I actually am a sensitive soul. Other than a day-one perma-ban of tanq., I actually would regret wielding power over the rest of you ragamuffins.

RE: Poll: How do you want the Spin Room to be moderated going forward?
JR's post about my not enjoying moderating ... good points.

And I'm a journalist. There are possibly some hard-core rightwingers (posting on the board or at least reading it) who hate that profession and might come after me if I (hypothetically) moderated in a manner they felt was unfair.

It's a moot point. Any board that would be as foolish to have Bill Faggart* as a moderator is a board that ... needs to cease operations.

* The late Jack Lewis Faggart was an American professional wrestler known as Sonny "Roughhouse" Fargo. His brother Henry Faggart wrestled as Jackie Fargo. Bill Faggart, hypothetically, could be a cousin who was effete, sensitive and gay — and, as such, an embarrassment to the hard-living and hyper-masculine Faggart clan.
