Jim, I always go back to the stalemate in WW1 where Woodrow Wilson offered a peace treaty along the current lines.
The Germans refused the offer mind you their territory at that time spanned from France all of Belgium who are Germans anyway all the way to the Baltics and close to 100 miles from St Petersburg Russia, Austria was a subordinate and the Eastern half of a much larger Ukraine fought with Germany. If they had just stopped there I do not believe there would have ever been a Hitler or WW2 which btw was just a continuation of WW1.
But like the Great Gatsby the Germans thought if they could run faster leap higher they would get elusive prize.
Those days are gone Jim from all my reading the Germans now want their respect and identity back and because of their pure hatred of Russia if they can place them in a desperate miserable existence sobeit.
Always remember one thing the German tribes defeated Rome. The same blood then inhabited England. The three most fiercest and vicious took over the British Isle which in turn created the British Empire.
The same blood that started the US and has us on top of the world. Yes the those same Germans share our DNA.
Doesn’t mean we have to trust them but it dam sure means you better not ever sell them short.
The Russians are getting schooled on this very subject. Over a million and counting casualties and no end in sight.
To your point we all better keep a close eye on a very disenfranchised Germany. From the posts I’ve read on some message boards there i’d be nervous if I was a Muslim as AfD party continues to grow in popularity
Seriously, they need to keep it together so I can go to Oktoberfest and drink one of those barrels of Marzen beer. I rarely drink but I do love the flavor of German and Belgium beer from Europe
