A record-setting performance by the North Carolina A&T men’s team highlighted an outstanding performance from CAA athletes at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field last weekend.

The Aggies’ men’s team finished with 21 points, which tied for 12th place overall, and had three individuals and two relay teams receive first-team All-America accolades. The three individual first-team All-Americans are the most for the CAA since 2001.

Leading the way was junior Isaiah Taylor, who placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 49.03 seconds. His twin brother, Xzaviah Taylor was close behind in seventh place, posting a time of 49.98.

Senior Jason Holmes broke the CAA and program record in the 110m hurdles for the second time in three days, placing fourth with a time of 13.16 seconds.

Holmes and the Taylor brothers added a second first-team All-America honor in the relays. Holmes combined with Lassale Hewitt, Jalen Booth-Mitchell, Nakhi Benjamin for a fourth-place effort in the 4X100 relay, completing the race in 38.67 seconds.

In the 4X400 relay, Isaiah Taylor, Xzaviah Taylor, Elijah Thomas and Dyimond Walker finished sixth with a time of 3:00.68, which broke the CAA all-time record. Isaiah Taylor’s 44.11 second anchor leg in the event also set a new CAA mark.

In the field events, North Carolina A&T’s Xavier Partee finished 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.82m (51-11) and Monmouth’s Evan Niedrowski placed 21st in the javelin with a throw of 67.75m (222-3). Both were named honorable mention All-Americans.

On the women’s side, North Carolina A&T’s Spirit Morgan earned second-team All-America recognition for the second year in a row with a 13th-place effort in the high jump with a leap of 1.79m (5-10.5). In the triple jump, the Aggies’ Olivia Dowd posted an 18th place performance with a leap of 12.80m (42-0) to pick up honorable mention All-America.

Very impressive. Program and athletes deserve a ton of credit for besting some much bigger institutions, and almost besting some others.
