Good grief, no. I didn't realize that TCU was the school to which the reference was being made. It seemed too much out of the question. It is ludicrous to compare UTA athletics to TCU athletics. The budgets and revenue sources vastly different. Good for them.
(Though that fact does not make me feel inferior to them as an institution in any way. In fact, we are very superior to them in other realms.)

except for university administrations and their goals for the university. utsa announced years ago that they felt that a big part of a university's perceived status is based on their peers. they decided the best way to up their game was to improve their athletic programs and work toward aligning themselves with better schools. while I consider uta a far better school academically, utsa now is aligned with schools such as army, navy, temple, rice, tulane and the like while we are about to be lumped in with such household names as austin peay, utah tech (I dont think they even give PHD"s), north alabama and so on. all probably plenty good schools but not widely considered by the general public as upper crust. the president of the university is paid 621,000$ + and maybe I'm the exception, but I dont think we are getting our money's worth.
Ha! I feel your pain.
Overall, institutionally, I don't think athletic alignment is all that some people think it is. UTA is thriving like crazy. We attract students and professors like crazy and our campus is pretty neat. Hundreds of millions being invested in facilities and landscaping. Still, I am one of those who would value a little athletic success sprinkled in. It's funny; it's important in some way while also being utterly unimportant.
The AD has accumulated a multi-million dollar war chest. I wonder how it will be dispersed (players, facilities, or athletic endowment). If we threw some at player money in one or two sports, I think we would see some excitement. The AD is certainly saying something to a numerous circle of donors to get them to open their pocket books.

well, if he starts talking about reviving football, I might renew my Maverick club membership.

I've said it before and I will say it again, "UTA needs MEN's Football." It is exciting that you are initiating women's football, but our old times competing against each other in football remain in my memory as always fun and exciting no matter who won, just a quick trip down the road. You are our neighbors and I would like you to add football to the Texas three-some.

well I just read that the average D-1 basketball player gets paid 55,380$. surely no players at UTA get that kind of money so I wonder who was the highest paid basketball player in the WAC this past season.
Nice pictures and article on the first building going up on our far west Fort Worth campus in Parker County. I like the look of it. The regents are forking over $100 million in PUF funds, which is huge. Probably the largest single PUF allocation in UTA history.

how much do you wanna bet West will have a football team before Arlington does.

I know that a donor gave 12 million for the engineering research building but were PUF funds used for the rest of the 126 million it cost.

These days buildings are usually constructed using a mix of funding sources. Possible sources include: PUF (allocated by the regents...highly desirable), tuition revenue bonds (or whatever they are now called; done by appropriate from the legislature; legislature usually does this every other session), local bonds (RFS), and gifts. Some buildings draw from all four; other buildings might use two or three of the sources. Seldom any more is it just one source.
I hope the university honors him appropriately with send-offs, a naming, etc. (I thought of "Sauerhage Maverick Stadium" but he deserves something better than that old piece of crud.)

45 All Americans and a bunch of olympians is quite an achievement.
UTA has $640 million of capital projects underway.
$183 Life Science building addition and renovation
$170 UTA West building and infrastructure
$160 University Center (UC) rebuild and renovation
$127 deferred maintenance across the campus
The last two were approved at last week's BOR meeting.
Deferred maintenance isn't sexy, but it is wise: HVAC systems, roof and elevator replacements, interior finishes. Monetarily, it is the equivalent of a big, new building (which the regents could have done instead). 100% funded from the Permanent University Fund (PUF). Many universities would love to have this much deferred maintenance dropped on them. It's an underreported issue all over.
If you want a nostalgic walkthrough the current UC, you better do it quickly. The original 1953 footprint and basement is being totally demolished. The newer, 1980s, eastern piece will remain but have work done on it. Very happy to see this. The current version is dark and not appealing by today's standards. This will put our union on par with or better than any university that we might consider to be a peer.

I saw that recent announcement with the president and other dignitaries standing outside of a lab building with the UTA logo along with some other logos. Because this is not on the UT System Capital Improvement Plan (where I got the other information), one must conclude that this lab building was funded by industry partners.
