There are about 7 people here who I feel I can trust with anything, as long as our interests stay aligned, of course. I don't believe for a second that our political opinions will ever differ greatly. And IMO political opinions tell me a lot about a person these days. In no certain order, those who I would choose to share a foxhole with are stink, shere, andy(AAA), GC, BTF, JR and Eric. There are several others, but I don't engage them as regularly or as intimately.

I might have to assist Andy to the foxhole, though. #snicker 03-drunk

No sharing of a foxhole with me, my good man? Actually, now that I ponder that ... I can understand your reasoning.

Ladies Night at Wilbert Dazzlington's Foxhole ... every Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. No dudes allowed admission.

Hey, just wait a dang second there, Sonny! 03-lmfao

I ain't dead yet. I'm headed out to Utah in early May. Flying into Vegas, then driving into Utah to take in the sites of their 5 national parks.

Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands. Lots of hiking involved. And I'm doing this all alone. It's my semi-annual break from my beloved spouse, who can no longer travel with me.

But I ain't needin' no dang assistance yet. 04-chairshot 04-cheers

Zion it is worth it to stay in the lodge if you can. You can't drive in the canyon unless you are staying at the lodge during the season, so staying at the lodge get's you deep in the canyon and access to stuff before the crowds roll in on the busses. And saves you from parking in town, riding that bus to the visitors center, then riding the canyon bus.

In the canyon accessible from the lodge or the bus stop the riverside, weeping springs, and emerald pools trails are all rewarding. Weeping springs is steep but short. Emerald pools the lower trail is flat, then you can come back on it, or you can climb up to the middle pool and come back that way but it is more strenuous.

Outside of the canyon the Canyon Overlook trail is great, but it can be steep and has a few narrow drop offs with no rails. Depends on what level of hike you want to undertake. The view at the end is awesome though. Parking is limited there, you just have to drive by until you catch someone leaving their spot.

Plus, those places are all gonna be crowded as hell.

Arches and Zion will. Make sure you check admission rules. When we went you had to get there by 6 am if you didn’t have a reservation.

Thanks, E. I tried to make a res at the lodge, but I waited too late to plan the trip. All sold out. I read you have to make the res 6 months in advance to be assured of a room. I did get a room in Springdale, though.

Interesting, the 3 trails you mentioned inside the park are the 3 I plan to do. I'll decide about Lower or Middle Pool when I get there. And if I have time, I might do part of the Pa'rus trail, as well.

I would love to do the Canyon Overlook trail, but I'm not feisty or experienced enough to try that one, especially alone.

I do plan to drive into the Visitor Center and park there very early, to get a good jump on things. Only going to be at Zion one full day.

At Arches and Zion? They did have timed restrictions in the past at both parks, but they dropped both of them in January.

Politics is the number one way you judge a person? Damn. I have friends all over the political map, I judge them based on whether they are good people or not. Politics is probably the last thing I'd worry about as I know ****** people from all parts of the spectrum.

I’d recommend trekking poles, they add a lot of stability on the down slopes. The powdery silt can be slippery on rocks.

The sit down restaurant there at the lodge (red rocks) is good and the prices are really reasonable. Could make a good lunch stop.

We spent two nights at the lodge and the star gazing was awesome at night. If you have a good clear night I would drive out of Springdale once the stars are out just to get some stargazing.

All good. I plan to buy trekking poles there. Also plan to eat lunch at the lodge. It's in the right spot if I start the day early at the last stop first, and work backwards.

My purpose for the trip is mainly the stargazing. I have lived all my life in the eastern and southern US, which sucks for that, and I have never really had a chance to do any serious stargazing out west, since my trips were for business or with disinterested family members on vacation.

I have a stargazing tour planned in Bryce, with large telescopes, and then have two nights in Moab, where I'll be inside Arches after dark. I am also bringing along a large pair of binoculars designed for stargazing with a tripod.

That will be awesome then. We could just barely see the Milky Way with the naked eye when we were there. I just put my little backpacking chair on the lawn of the lodge and stared up until my neck hurt.

At night like that in the canyon its weird. The canyon wall across from you becomes this ominous black void looming over you that’s darker than the dark.

Yeah, of the 3 places I'm staying (Zion, Bryce, Moab/Arches), Zion is the least stargazing friendly. I couldn't get the lodge, so I'm in Springdale, which isn't ideal. But a tour at Bryce with the big scopes, and 2 nights on my own in wide open Arches should do the trick. Now I have to hope for clear skies at least one night, lol. Or 2 or 3.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. It's always good to talk to somebody who has done the trip before. 04-cheers
