Work and life have gotten pretty busy, and that, combined with Creighton's relativity poor season, haven't left me with energy to post much. But I wanted to highlight something I've appreciated that the Big East does every year. The Research Poster Symposium at the Big East Tournament. In the years I've gone to the tournament they often announce the winners at halftime of a game (I believe it's the championship game but I could be wrong).

"The fifth annual BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium took place on Saturday, March 14, at Madison Square Garden, bringing together outstanding undergraduate scholars from across the conference for a day of academic competition and collaboration. The event featured 55 teams representing all 11 BIG EAST member institutions, with five teams from each school. Each team, consisting of one or two currently enrolled undergraduate students, presented original research to a panel of judges.

Projects were evaluated on a range of criteria, including visual quality and clarity of content, effectiveness of the introduction, depth of results and discussion, presentation style, and the presenters’ ability to respond to questions. Judges also assessed how well each team provided sufficient background, engaged the audience, and demonstrated subject knowledge. The symposium continues to serve as a premier platform for undergraduate students to showcase innovative research in a high-profile setting."

Really a great way to highlight the primary function of universities (to teach and create knowledge) on one of the biggest stages each of the schools has each year.

I wasn't even aware of this, thanks for sharing it here. Also nice to see you on, I know work and life can take over sometimes. Hopefully Creighton gets back on track next year and the energy to post more returns

Also, interesting UConn won the overall when only 1 team place in the top 3 (going off the article anyways.) It was a first place finish for her (Hailey DeWalt), but I still expected to see more people listed as finishing in the top 3 from UConn.

I’m guessing that given there were 55 total research poster presentations, but only 9 who win medals, depth is what determined which universities placed in the top 3. If one school had a couple of teams medal but the rest were below average, they could still fail to rank in the top 3 overall.

I just gave a quick read. Good stuff.
